The best part of my weekend, and probably last 6 months: today one of my little guys brought HIS rock collection for me to check out at my tent today. He and his family are awesome. This kid is going places. He is going to be our next rock-star geologist in 20 years. His mom said that he had been waiting and asking for weeks to come back to the market with his collection, as he had told me that he would bring it for me to see the last time that I saw them at my booth. And, his sister told me that she would bring me hers too next time to check out. Any day that I get to nerd out over rocks and geology with cool small humans and fellow rock hounds is the best day ever, of all time for me. I have some cool families that come to see me. This kid, though. The look of happiness and pride on his little face when he was showing me his collection: priceless. More valuable than gold and diamonds. So, we had a big, long rock-talk. And, he gave me TWO of his iron pyrite pieces that he collected himself! What??? Best present ever! I would say that my favorite part of bringing my wares and collection to markets, is giving kids the little quartz points that I buy to hand out to them, and getting to talk about how awesome geology, paleontology, mineralogy, and science in general is. The lights that come on in their little faces. Seriously, I think that is why I do what I do more than the desire to turn a profit. Be still my heart, kid! I now have the best iron pyrite specimens on the planet. What a beautiful day. The heart is happy. Rock on, budding geologist! Geology does indeed rock. My pyrite pieces are going in my permanent personal collection.
What a lucky lady I am!
