I have an idea for marvel comics. So, here it is.
First, background. Introduce a new cosmic being (we will call cosmic being A), this being around 1960 creates an event which changes how time works. Time now works in the Marvel way (i.e. sliding timeline used in the 616 marvel universe). Cosmic being A uses the friction created between normal time and Marvel time to gain more power. Also this friction will increase over time till it explodes, at that time everything is destroyed and cosmic being A will gain all power and be able to recreate a new reality where he is GOD.
Second, background. Introduce a new cosmic being (we will call cosmic being B), this being notices what is happening (only one that does) and tries to stop it. Ends up with 4 forces effecting all of reality, 1-cosmic being A, 2-cosmic being B, 3-the force of the event that started it all, and 4-the natural forces of normal time trying to right everything, these 4 forces are warping reality where the past and future is constantly changing (new worlds, beings, events are being created and destroyed in the past and future). This explains the constant rewriting of Marvel history. Almost all major events that have happened have been these forces trying to protect the new Marvel timeline, or restore normal time.
Third, current storyline. Everything is about to be destroyed by the Marvel timeline. Spider-Man (because of his spider sense) is the first to notice something is wrong. He suddenly notices that if he was in high school in the early 60s, he should be around 80 years old. He heads to the two people he knows might help figure out what's going on, Dr. Strange and Reed Richards. Together they figure out what's happening. And though many trial and errors find out that nothing can stop it now, and there is too much protection at the time of the original event to stop it there.
Forth, the fix. The only time where the marvel timeline is weak enough to fix (far enough from the original event, and far back enough to have a chance of fixing it) is Avengers 200. They find out that Marcus was created by cosmic being B, in an attempt to fix the timeline, he created the situation, played with the minds of all involved to get them to go along with it. The machine would have fixed the problem, and time would return to normal. But cosmic being A freed enough of Hawkeye's mind to allow his normal stubbornness to figure something is wrong and destroy the machine. But this time, they stop this from happening, and the machine restores normal time.
Fifth, the effect. All time and reality is reorganized. The combined thoughts of everyone though reality (on earth and throughout the universe), and time (past and future) is used to recreate everything. I so doing the only period that is the same is the original between the first event and the stopping event (i.e. 1960 to 1980), all else is changed by the thoughts of everyone, including the villains.
Sixth. aftermath. This in my mind fixes some issues with Marvel. First, gives Carol Danvers back her life, redeems the Avengers of Av200. Second, gives Marvel the chance to start again, at a great time in Marvel history. They could start publishing books from this point in time. Do like Shooter did for early Valiant, have a tight continuity.
Marvel could release a book explaining on which issue for every title ended (permitting a little fixing of the exact time), and going over where each character is, including their age and birthday for going forward. Recall the sliding timeline is still going on between 1960 to 1980, but not going forward.
Conclusion. I think the age of the monthly comic book is over. Marvel should switch to producing high quality hardcovers (later released as SCs) of about 300 pages each (think the marvel masterworks). These could be one long story or a few shorter ones. They could be in the style, feel, and art of the mid 70s.
