It's been 20 years since I started this foray into Jewelry creation and manufacturing. This chain, referred to as an Egyptian (or stacked) herringbone came to me under very special circumstances.
I began the journey with simple chain/necklace designs. I had purchased several item from one, gracious and helpful woman. After a while she contacted me, saying she had some stock that she had not listed and asking if I would be interested. Not really knowing what I was looking at or for at that time I agreed. She showed me this chain, she had a single spool, it was special, and she wanted me to have it. Watching my work for a bit she felt that I would eventually know just what to do with it. I was touched. But asked her why me, why now?
She had been diagnosed with cancer and was in stage 4, no hope of surviving. She had kept the chain for just the right project, but that never came and she was out of time. She saw in me an eye that would eventually find the right use.
Like her I kept the chain in a safe place, took it out now and then and just stared at it. Eventually this design came to life.
Braided herringbone chokers have been around for some time, but not in chain quite like this. I had enough to make four. There are three out there from that stock, on three different continents, in 3 different sizes. There is enough for one last choker, a smaller length, but one last one.
I had gone looking for more, I spoke with five or six of the top herringbone chain manufacturers in Italy, they don't even have a memory of the design, nor have they seen anything like it in the last 30 or 35 years.
I am starting production of the last one. The chain is not available anywhere in new old stock or production. Believe me I have searched for years now. If you are interested in finding out more please feel free to reach out to me. I will be giving a considerable discount for a pre-order, but will be firm on the price once listed.
The chain will be approximately 10 inches in length and will fit a 12 to 13 inch circumference which will allow for a 2 to 3 inch corset back.
