It’s almost 2am but please read & share this with anyone who might need somewhere safe to land today.
As an openly queer-owned local business, I’ve spent years intentionally cultivating a space where our community can feel safe, welcomed and loved. Today, more than ever, I feel a responsibility in my heart to keep protecting and nurturing that space by opening our doors to anyone who needs it 🪶🙏🏽🖤
Yesterday I held space for so many people carrying grief, fear, anger and disbelief. I listened, I hugged, I cried with people, and more than anything, I realized how deeply we need each other right now😔
Vincent and Cameron were people who held space for others, who opened their arms and made people feel welcome. Today, we hold them close, along with their families, chosen families, friends and everyone who loved them.
& we hold Venture-N, too. For countless people in our community, Venture-N has been so much more than a bar. It has been a place to laugh, dance, perform, celebrate, find each other and simply belong. What happened there does not erase what that space has meant to countless members of our community. We honor the people who created that safety, the people who found home within its walls, and everyone now carrying the pain of what happened there 💔🙏🏽
So today, I want to honor that same spirit by opening our doors.
Come sit with us and make a small ofrenda of light. Light one for Vincent or Cameron, for their families and loved ones, for Venture-N, for our LGBTQIA+ community, or make one to carry with you to tonight’s vigil.
There is nothing to buy and nothing expected of you. I’ll be offering copal smoke throughout the day for cleansing & purification so please come cry, talk, create, sit quietly, or simply be around people who understand.
We will keep making room for each other. We will keep protecting the spaces where we find one another. And we will keep reminding each other that we belong here.
