**Note from daughter Lisa Merrell...Dad offered his heirloom tomato plants and saved his seeds from the help of neighbors and friends from 1994 to 2002. I moved back to Tulsa in 2003 to help and learn from him. In 2006 he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on April 24,2008 in Jenks, Ok. the same month as his father Dan. I have decided, with much encouragement from Dad, family, friends, co-workers and customers, to carry on the growing tradition on the Old Home Place Farm** Jan. 28,2010

My Garden and I needed some breathing room!

Louis and I cleaned out the older plants today. It’s always bittersweet but spider mites just took over the older plants. Still my new plantings from July are looking great!

My plan is to do a spider mite/aphid treatment on my newer plants just in case. I will be using organic neem oil so that it doesn’t disturb the beneficial insects. I’ll do three treatments in total in Three Day intervals to break up their reproduction cycle.

If you decide to do the same, remember to always spray early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is not hitting the plants.

Hi all!

I cut this baby open recently!

Can anyone guess what variety it is? I can tell you that it is delicious.

Okay, I will give you a hint… It was a variety in the top 10 picks from our spring offerings this year.

My garden that was planted in later May is on its way out due to the heat and spider mites. But my newer plantings from late July are doing well.

How about you guys, are you making it through this heat?

Second… please know how much we appreciate all of you for your support for what we do here! From coming out and shopping and sharing your gardening experience with us to telling your family and friends.

This completes 23 years for me offering our plants and sharing my advice. You guys teach me so much as well!!!

We all agree here at TMD that we have the best customers ever : )

Personally, I’m taking a two week break. But know that as a team we are already saving seed for 2027!

Come on out for our last two sales days of 2026.

All of my offerings are appropriate to plant right now. I select fast producing varieties for this time of year. Sometimes the fall harvest for tomatoes can be bigger than spring plantings!

Wow! Thanks all for participating with my last post. There were so many great answers!

At that particular time Misha and I were “brushing” the plants to help our transplants get stronger more quickly. I was taught this technique by a sales rep that came to visit me after my dad died.

In the photos, notice the stalk is starting to purple. That’s when I know they are getting strong enough for your gardens. Also, those fuzzy hairs are a positive sign because those grow into roots when planted under the soil line!

So fun… Scooder and I got a good giggle!
