🇨🇺 A REMARKABLE PHOTOGRAPHIC ARCHIVE OF CUBA AND THE REVOLUTION 🇨🇺
This is not simply a collection of Fidel Castro photographs—it is a visual record of a nation undergoing one of the most consequential transformations of the twentieth century.
Preserved together in a single album, these vintage photographs trace Cuba from its pre-revolutionary commercial and social life through the uprising in the Sierra Maestra, the triumph of the Revolution, and the country’s emergence as a central player in the Cold War.
Among the images are:
• Fidel and Raúl Castro with rebel forces
• A portrait of revolutionary leader Che Guevara
• Fidel Castro meeting Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev
• Revolutionary troops, military formations and public gatherings
• Castro participating in public and baseball-related events
• Women assembled in organized civic or militia formations
• Havana architecture, waterfront development and street scenes
• Rare glimpses of Bacardi and Hatuey promotional events and commercial life before the Revolution
One especially significant photograph retains its original UPI Telephoto caption dated June 28, 1958. The caption identifies Fidel and Raúl Castro with members of their rebel force in the Sierra Maestra and states that the photograph was taken in April 1958—months before the fall of the Batista government. It also references the internationally reported kidnapping of American and Canadian personnel connected with the American-owned Moa Bay mining operation.
Several photographs appear closely connected to the first years of the Revolution, including armed processions, Castro’s public appearances, commemorations of the July 26 Movement, diplomatic encounters and scenes reflecting Cuba’s developing relationship with the Soviet Union.
Together, these images preserve more than famous faces. They document politics, military history, international relations, commerce, architecture and everyday Cuban life during a period that reshaped both Cuba and the modern world.
