This is what we walked into after being robbed for over $300,000 worth of Pokemon, Magic the Gathering and Lorcana.
We are not your typical TCG Store. When new sets are released we do sell them for MSRP(sometimes $10 over MSRP) and when we sell out; we are forced to purchase for a percent of Market price. Hence our price constant price changes.
We pay anywhere from 60%-90% of market price for singles, graded and sealed product - depends on what the items are (I’m not buying 368 cards valued at $1000 for 90%). We trade anywhere from 70%-100% for the same reasons above.
All of our windows are double paned. Our doors are steel. The window they broke into is thin(width, skinny people only). We have tons of cameras that caught all angles of the robbery. We have glass/motion sensors throughout the shop.
We take all of our $500+ graded cards and vintage sealed and put them away every night before closing and locking up. If we were to store everything in the vaults every night then we would need a vault larger than most banks, due to the vast quantities of items we have. We have over 1,100 different types(not quantity) of items(does not include singles or graded cards) in our inventory
Time log for our alarm system;
1:59am - sensor triggered(mere seconds after entering through the window)
2:00am - alarm started going off
2:01am - attempt 1 made to call me, I was asleep
2:02am - attempt 2 made, still asleep
2:04am - SimpliSafe dispatched police
2:06:35am - suspects leave
2:06:45am - police arrive on scene
SimpliSafe won’t give an answer on how long they have until the 2nd attempt is made before dispatching police, they hung up on me when requesting documents: twice. I am unable to see exact seconds of phone call attempts by SimpliSafe; they also did not supply that to me.
Our alarm system functioned properly and as it should have, it was the SimpliSafe employees who did not notify police in a timely manner. The Police department also were on scene within 3 minutes.
