Summer solstice is upon us. We’ve had a lot of cool nights and some good a.m. fishing. Despite the cool nights, many places on the LJ still reach 68-70 degrees by late afternoon. Blue liners are staying cool, peaking a little short of 60 degrees.

Happy Memorial Day to you all. A bit of a wash out here this morning with 1.5” of rain overnight. Spinner falls are strong, with plenty of sulphur duns still hatching. Cahills and slate drakes will be on our lines once the river drops.

Josh had a good day last week on some nice fish. Wild brown trout can be moody, sulking in deep pools but typically respond well to warm ups when it’s cold and vice versa. Little bit of a heatwave coming to an end tomorrow evening, thankfully, as river temps were creeping up a bit.

A few fish from the past couple days. We’ve had some solid fishing and some where you got to be consistent in your presentation, make minor adjustments and really work for them. Fish are rising to sulphurs and caddis with subtle takes. River temps have swung up and down with some cold nights with frosts and even freezes in the higher elevations. The river is in good shape, though some rain in the forecast for the weekend. Best of luck to you all, next couple weeks ought to be a good time to be on the river.

Joe with a beauty of a fish from Sunday. It’s hard to beat the coloration of LJ browns, don’t you say? Joe and his crew fished hard and were consistent; we got some fish but it was a tough couple hours. Water temp was 58, air temp 45, with sun, rain, hail, wet snow all in about 15 minutes. :). Won’t be long for sulphurs.

Beautiful and warm on the river yesterday. Passing through from Iowa, Tony had a nice day as BWO popped off in decent numbers. The olive hatch in March while not particularly heavy, can get the fish chasing.

Thunderstorms early this morning put down an inch of rain in Tyrone.

Fred from DC came up to fish the river during a warm spell and got into some fish. The LJ does fish well all year if timing works out, but now we’re back to snow squalls! Staying light with small bugs such as zebra midges worked well.
