On Monday, June 1, I'll be celebrating my 34th anniversary as the owner of The Corner Cupboard! My, how the years have flown! It's unbelievable!
I absolutely treasure the wonderful friendships Iโve made with so many people whom I may not otherwise have met. To all of my employees over the years, loyal, longtime customers from near & far, & supportive community, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! Itโs been an incredible journey!
It certainly hasn't been without challenges & changes, though, including the local economy, the devastating fire adjacent to our building in 2005, the almost complete disappearance of the one time extremely robust collectibles market, the decision to exit the Hallmark Gold Crown Program in 2014, being closed for 48 days in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the decline of greeting cards sales, & the convenience of e-commerce giants, such as Amazon.
On a much more positive note, B.G., since joining my staff in October 2019, has brought tons of smiles to customersโ faces & Facebook friends alike, the relocation of the Art Hub in my adjoining room in the fall of 2020 has proven to be a perfect fit, & the addition of Life is Good apparel & accessories, made possible by Randolph County United's Pitch Competition in 2025, has been a huge hit!
I can honestly say I've never said I don't want to go to work today. I truly love what I do & sincerely look forward to continuing to serve my community!
As I'm obviously not as young as I once was, lol, I've been asked, at least a few times, if I plan to retire soon. My response is, as long as I'm physically & mentally able & I'm still enjoying what I do, I plan to continue this longtime venture!
Please stay tuned for announcements regarding our 34th Anniversary Celebration in the coming weeks! ๐
With deep appreciation,
Shelly
