Its amazing how much of a difference a little encouragement can make. At the Thrifty Hippie we’ve seen it turn into moms starting school to create better futures, families moving forward after a divorce, and children smiling with donated backpacks, clothing, and food.

It’s so easy to miss the impact a little kindness can make. We were blessed this week to have a family we helped came back today so their daughter could say thank you. She brought a huge hug — and we felt that familiar truth: helping others is the greatest joy.

Our biggest need this week is non-perishable food items for the food pantry (pasta/sauce, beans/rice, Mac & cheese, PB&J, dry cereal, poptarts, snack crackers, etc) and kids shoes.

Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to provide low‑ or no‑cost essentials to families in need in Universal City and beyond. You may not see it directly, but your kindness and generosity is making a real difference in the lives of people in need everyday.

What a beautiful week at The Thrifty Hippie!✨ Hope for the Homeless picked up blankets and clothing to deliver to those sleeping outside.✨ Local families found the clothing they needed.✨ And together, we served over 100 children with food and clothing — because no child in our community should go without.

In addition to donations of perishable food items for the food pantry, which we’re always looking for, with school almost here, we’re also collecting school supplies to provide to those who need them. Every donation helps us provide low‑cost and no‑cost essentials to our Universal City neighbors. Thank you for being part of this movement of kindness.

This week reminded us yet again why the Thrifty Hippie exists.
We watched children smile as they picked out clothes and food. We helped seniors who simply needed a little support. We delivered a wheelchair to someone healing from hip surgery and a walker to a stroke survivor who’s learning to stand again.

Samms Ministry brought in members of the homeless community who needed shoes and clothing, and because of your generosity, we had exactly what they needed.

Every act of giving becomes a ripple of hope. We are blessed to bless — and we thank God for the chance to serve.
Thank you for helping us love our community so well.

🌼 Kindness Moves People Forward

Today at The Thrifty Hippie, kindness looked like an interview outfit, new friends at craft time, a couple starting over, and a family gathering items for their home.

Every small act helps someone take their next step in life.

Thank you for showing up for your neighbors — your generosity makes all the difference.

As always, if you’re looking to support, we always need non-perishable food for the food bank and grocery bags. Thanks. Have a blessed week!

In the old story of Stone Soup, a tired traveler arrives in a village where everyone is holding tightly to what little they have. He places a smooth stone into a pot of boiling water in the middle of the square. Curious villagers gather around.
The traveler tells me making stone soup, which is good, but it’s even better with some other ingredients. One villager brings a carrot. Another offers a potato. Someone adds herbs, another brings cabbage, and soon the pot is full — not because of the stone, but because each person shared what they could. By evening, the whole village is sitting together, enjoying a meal none of them could have made alone.

The magic wasn’t in the stone.
It was in the giving.

We see that same magic here every day at The Thrifty Hippie. Neighbors bring what they can — a bag of clothing, a few cans of food, a household item they no longer need — and together it becomes something bigger. It becomes meals for families, clothing for children, essentials for seniors, and hope for someone having a tough time

Just like the villagers, our community proves that generosity multiplies. One act inspires another. And together, we create something none of us could make alone.

Thank you for being part of this mission to help one another.

Community kindness continues to shine here in Universal City and our surrounding areas.

This week, your generosity helped us reach so many neighbors in need:

✨ With the help of the Honor Society seniors, we delivered donations to the Humane Society
✨ Provided free baby items to several pregnant moms preparing for their little ones
✨ Helped a member of our homeless community obtain a vital record
✨ Offered food, clothing, and essentials to anyone who came to us in need
✨ Connected a domestic violence survivor with a safe bed
✨ Purchased a bus pass for someone struggling with transportation
✨ And we are currently searching for a washing machine for a local family

Every act of kindness makes a real difference. ❤️

We are always in need of non‑perishable food items for our pantry, including:
• Peanut butter & jelly
• Spaghetti & spaghetti sauce
• Rice & beans
• Dry cereal
• Canned meats
• Pop‑Tarts
• Snack crackers

🙏 Thank you for supporting our mission to provide low‑ or no‑cost food, clothing, and household essentials to those in need.

📢 Important Notice:
Starting Wednesday the 25th, our driveway leading to the donation area will be under construction. During this time, all donations must be dropped off at the front of the store or held until the following week.
Thank you for understanding and for continuing to support our community.

Calling all Hippie Helpers. We have one of our local friends, a single dad with three kids whose been without a washing machine for about four months. We’d really like to help him. Does anybody have one they’re not using or are upgrading and getting rid of one?

💛 What a week of compassion and community care here in Universal City.

This week, we were able to step in for neighbors facing some truly tough moments.
A local family who experienced severe flooding lost many of their household items — thanks to this community, we were able to help them replace essentials and regain a bit of stability.
We also provided lots of food to multiple families, making sure pantries were full and no one went to bed hungry.
And several of our homeless neighbors came in with shoes so worn that the soles were peeling away from miles of walking. Because of your generosity, they left with sturdy shoes, dignity, and relief.

To every donor, volunteer, and friend who keeps this mission alive — thank you. Your kindness is felt every single day.

🌻 Our food pantry is always in need of non‑perishable staples, especially:

• Peanut butter & jelly
• Spaghetti & spaghetti sauce
• Rice & beans
• Dry cereal
• Canned meats
• Pop‑Tarts
• Snack crackers

Every donation helps a neighbor in need.
Every act of kindness strengthens our community.

Thank you for being part of this mission. 🌿💛

Don’t forget all clothes are $3.50 every day so come out and see us for some amazing deals.

What a beautiful week of community care.
With your help, our little store was able to help several families with food support and shared local resources to help them meet minimum needs. One of our homeless neighbors received a bike from St. Vincent Church, our kiddos got new shoes, and we carried crutches and groceries right to a family’s car.

A huge thank‑you to IDEA Public Schools for donating books so our kids can kick off summer with stories and smiles. 📚✨

Summer is here — come visit us. We’ll be doing crafts on select Fridays and would love to see you. Will announce them in advance.

🌻 We do have an important need.
Our food pantry shelves are running low. We’re asking for not‑expired, non‑perishable items such as:
• Spaghetti & sauce
• Rice & beans
• Dry cereal
• Pop‑Tarts
• Snack crackers
• Canned meats
• Other staple pantry items

Your donations help us keep serving families, seniors, children, and neighbors experiencing hardship.

❤️ Thank you for loving your community and blessing so many. ❤️

🌿 Every day at our nonprofit reminds us what community truly means.

This week, your kindness helped change lives in the most beautiful ways:
• A fresh start for a mom — dishes, blankets, and the essentials she needed to settle into her new apartment.
• Clothing and shoes for children
• A few hours of work for a neighbor — just enough to help him cover rent and breathe a little easier.
• Daily food and essentials — shared with families who walk through our doors needing a hand, not judgment.

💛 We are also honored to support two community members seeking work:
• A young man connected through Vista Vocational Resource Center, looking for 10–15 hours a week. Please contact Sandra if you can help.
• Another gentleman in the Universal City area seeking full‑time work, with experience in sales, indoor and outdoor construction.

Your generosity makes all of this possible.
Your donations, your time, your compassion — you are the reason hope grows here every day.

🌻 Thank you for blessing us, so we can continue blessing others.
