Just finished two days in Glacier. Day 1 was going in the west entrance on Sunday at 3pm (got right thru with no wait) and ate dinner at Lucke’s Lounge inside Lake McDonald Lodge (Fireside Dining Room doesn’t open till 5). We then went to Logan Pass to hike Hidden Lake trail (1 hour to hike in, steady uphill with steps and 40 minutes out). We then returned the way we came to take in the views. Monday (8/11) we drove around to the east entrance (easy drive, 100 mi from Columbia Falls) and entered at 10:45 am (no wait). We hiked to St. Mary Falls and Virginia Falls (an hour up and 40 min out and an easier hike than Hidden Lake). We then continued on the GTTS road, stopped at a few turnoffs and hiked to Avalanche Lake (harder than St Mary/Victoria Falls hike but easier than Hidden Lake, 70 minutes up, 50 min out). We exited the park at West Glacier side at 5:30pm. Over the 2 days, we felt we did the 3 best “short hikes” and lucked out with parking and the weather! (Going to Logan Pass late afternoon to avoid parking nightmare during the day is my advice). I also thought the East Glacier Lodge was the nicest of the historic hotels we visited. If I came again, I would explore Two Medicine and Many Glacier areas. Overall, it was an incredible trip. I highly recommend GNP!

Had an amazing time there this past week! If you are planning a trip, here is some info that I gained from going:

When people say bring layers, they mean it! The weather there Thursday (June 27) was 45 with a real feel of 35 because of winds. We saw many people who were not prepared. (Just sweatshirts, shorts, etc)

Bug spray is a must. The bugs were pretty bad.

Lodges are a great place to eat. We have eaten at the Swiftcurrent motor inn several times. Many Glacier has great feel to it and you can see the mts from their large windows in the lobby- so take time to enjoy the very old lodges.

Dont let rain stop you from hiking. The wind might get you a little, but I promise the rain will not deter animals. We saw several yesterday while it was cold and rainy.

Many Glacier is best for wild life.

Break in hiking boots before you get here!!!

St. Mary Falls to Virginia falls is a MUST!

If you can, go to the Polebridge Mercantile- they are one of the oldest in the state and are famous for their huckleberry bear claws.

You will lose service in the park. To combat this I made a note (in the notes app) on my phone of all the hikes we thought about doing with the round trip milage broken down by area.

If you are scared about driving the going to the sun road utilize the shuttle. It was not available while we were here but we would have 100% used it.

Staying Babb area is a great because you are close to St. Mary, Many Glacier and about 22 min from the Canadan border if you wanted to go up to Wateron.

Just got back from an amazing 4 day trip to glacier, WOW it brought me to tears just driving thru going to the sun road, it’s breathtaking! This park has changed my life forever… we only got one sunny day but it didn’t netter if it was raining, it just gave it an extra layer of adventure!
