Morning skin and evening skin have different jobs to do.
Antioxidants like Vitamin C neutralise free radicals generated by UV exposure and pollution throughout the day, but they oxidise faster in daylight, which is why they're applied in the morning alongside SPF rather than at night.
Retinol works by accelerating cell turnover, a process that's more active overnight during skin's natural repair cycle. Retinol also breaks down in UV light, so applying it in the morning reduces both its effectiveness and increases the risk of irritation.
Splitting actives by time of day isn't a routine preference. It's matching each ingredient to the conditions it needs to actually work.
