Nagyvarious Instruments Handcrafted
mountain dulcimers. Designed and built by Gordon A. Nagy. I was immediately attracted to the instrument and its music.

In 1970 while vacationing among the Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee I happened upon an attraction called the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. Among the exhibits in the museum was a mountain dulcimer in a glass case and a recording of some sort of Celtic music. The builder of the instrument was Bill Davis, a local craftsman who had also been the Tennessee state mountain dulcimer champion for number of years. I found his shop and bought one of his instruments. At the time I had no knowledge of music or instruments. I took the instrument home and practiced on it for weeks using the included instructional album. The next year on vacation I purchased a kit which was a prefabricated version of the finished instrument. A few months later we happened to be in Gatlinburg again and we were discussing the kit that I had assembled and he said, “You should try building one from scratch!”

So when I got home I gave it a try. The following year I took my instrument down to Tennessee and Bill graciously played it for me. That is when my addiction to music and to creating instruments started. My desire to create has continued to this day.

Field Day is ham radio's open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

The Eastern Ohio Amateur Wireless Association (EOAWA) ham radio club will be setting up this Saturday June 25th at the EMA and will begin making contacts starting at 2:00pm.

Feel free to come check things out.
