Monona County Public Health/Environmental Health is partnering with Marion County Public Health on a Radon Grant and we have free short term Radon Testing kits for the residents of Monona County! These kits are available only for residential homes, no businesses.

It doesn’t matter if you live in the country or in the city, you can stop in the Monona County Environmental Health office in Onawa and pick up a kit - you have to own your home, no renters please.

This grant also includes Mitigation Financial Assistance up to $2,000 to mitigate your home if you have an elevated Radon level of 4.0 pCi/L.

Stop in today and for more information and to pick up your kit 😊 Radon is the second leading cause of Lung Cancer in non-smokers.

RECYCLING BIN REMOVAL

Due to the continued misuse and contamination of community recycling bins, the Monona County Sanitary Landfill Agency will be removing all recycling bins from local communities on or before September 1, 2026.

We appreciate everyone who has properly used the recycling bins and helped keep our communities clean. Unfortunately, continued misuse has made the community bins unsustainable.

♻️ RECYCLING IS STILL AVAILABLE!

The Monona County Transfer Station in Turin will continue to accept recycling at our facility.

City Hall will have reduced hours on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. City Hall will be open 8:30am-10:30am for that day. If you are dropping off Hwy 141 garage sale sign-ups, those will still be processed that afternoon before the maps are printed.

Iowa Highway 141 Garage Sales are coming!

The Ute city-wide garage sales will be held August 7th (Fri.) & 8th (Sat.), 2026. Maps of the garage sales in Ute are being made and will be available online, Ampride II, Post Office, and at Ute City Hall.

SELLER INFORMATION
• Forms available at City Hall or Online at: https://cityofute.com/hwy-141-garage-sale-sign-ups/
• Register by Wednesday August 5th at Noon to be added to the city-wide map online. Paper maps will be printed and distributed Thursday August 6th.
• No Charge for Listings
• Include your name, address, & contact phone number (only address will be published), 15-20 word listing of items that you want to sell and hours/days of your sale. Most sales start at 8:00 a.m., but you can set the hours of your sale. Please let us know if you have a one day only sale.
• SALES WILL BE HELD RAIN OR SHINE.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION
MONITORING VIOLATION OF THE WATER TESTING SCHEDULE
Our water system violation a drinking water standard(s) over the past year. Even though these were not emergencies, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct these situations.
We, the Ute Water Supply are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During April 2026 we did not monitor or test two samples for coliform bacteria and nitrate and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of our drinking water during that time.
What should I do?
There is nothing to do at this time.
What happened? What is being done?
With Lonnie being out for surgery, he missed taking the monthly bacteria and nitrate samples for April due April 30. Samples were taken on May 4. All daily samples were taken.
