Back to school isn’t just an adjustment for the kids—it’s an adjustment for your dog, too 🐾🎒
After a summer filled with later mornings, more people at home, extra outings and a different daily rhythm, September can bring a pretty sudden change.
And our dogs notice!
You might see:
⏺️ More barking or attention-seeking
⏺️ Difficulty settling
⏺️ Increased following or clinginess
⏺️ Destructive behaviour
⏺️ Changes in sleep or activity
⏺️ More excitement when everyone gets home
⏺️ Increased frustration or reactivity on walks
This doesn’t necessarily mean your dog has suddenly developed a new “behaviour problem.” Their environment and routine have changed, and their behaviour may change along with it.
Help make the transition easier by keeping the parts of their routine you can predictable, providing opportunities for sniffing and enrichment, building in quality time together, and making sure they’re still getting enough rest.
And remember—adjustment takes time. Back-to-school season is a transition for the whole household, including the four-legged family members 🐶
