Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed Assembly Bill 1948 (AB 1948), which changes the duration of standard California Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) licenses.

Effective January 1, 2027:
β€’ New and renewal California CCW licenses may be issued for up to three years, instead of the current two-year term.

What this means for current CCW holders:
β€’ If your CCW is issued before January 1, 2027, it will remain valid until the expiration date printed on your license.
β€’ Existing licenses will not automatically be extended to three years.
β€’ New and renewal licenses issued on or after January 1, 2027 may be eligible for the new three-year term, provided all statutory requirements are met.

I regret to inform our Solano County friends and customers that as of July 1, 2026, we are no longer on Solano County’s authorized vendor list. In early June we were notified of an issue and the determination of removal. We requested and had a meeting with the Sheriff to address the issue. The Sheriff agreed the issue was handled poorly and would let us know if he would rescind his decision to remove us from the approved vendor list. As of 1 July, we have not heard the final decision, so the initial decision is in effect. If there are changes, we will post those changes here updating our status.

We will still conduct CCW classes for our other partner agencies and are adding (now we have time to) a red dot/RMR class to our July schedule. As we have just completed the new range we will maintain it as our primary training location in Solano County. If you have any questions, you can reach out to me.

Thank you for the 20 plus years of continued support.

Getting a few emails regarding the April 11th class and rain. We will still be running the class. Our 20x40 cover offers some protection from the rain. If you are scheduled for the initial class and want to be moved to the 25 April class, just email me and I have plenty of room to accommodate that. Otherwise, I suggest bringing a rain jacket.

Hello everyone. We have built a new range off Hwy 113. I know some folks worry as for the convenience we all enjoyed being off Fry Rd. We are now between the Vacaville dump and Hwy 12 off Hwy 113
The new location is 15 minutes from the Rock Source, 15 Minutes from Dixon and just over 15 minutes from Suisun. What the new location allows is for a larger range which in turn allows for more shooters and us getting through the renewal qualification faster. There are no close homes so no more complaints about gun noises. New construction for the classroom won't be completed for about 90 days so we will use temporary structures for now.

We are looking forward to continuing our services at the new location. Stay safe out there.

This is just a part of an article I was reading this morning. Its specific to caliber selection. Thought I'd share for you big caliber folks out there. Bullet selection matters.

FBI testing conducted at the end of the 2000s revealed that modern 9mm projectiles were also essentially equal to 40Cal in performing in the same tests on the protocol with the.40 S&W. Scott attributed the cutting of the mechanism to one grim service to a very blunt advantage, which was assigned to Hornady by Dave Emery: β€œBecause you give us velocity.” Designers enjoyed a broader window of velocities with 9mm that remained consistent over duty handguns and projectile engineering was able to provide a consistent barrier offering. The conclusions of the tests made by Emery in the 9mm versus.40 in FBI-style tests were just as straightforward: β€œThere’s not a nickel’s worth of difference between the two.”

The last point was practical, as opposed to theoretical. In live FBI shooting Scott reported that six of ten shooters were quicker and much more accurate with 9mm than with.40 S&W, ranging from beginners to the very best. At the intersection of terminal performance, hit probability and fleet reliability are on the line. To an agency where sidearms are a controlled system, the caliber narrative concludes at the bullet narrative origin: predictable pe*******on past obstacles, repeatable action and shooters who can place rounds where they are required to be placed.

New requirements for 2026. You must renew your permit before it expires. No more grace period. See below

As of January 1, 2026, California Penal Code Β§ 26225(e), amended by Assembly Bill 1078, has significantly changed the rules for Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license renewals by eliminating the previous grace period.
Key details regarding this change include:
No Grace Period: Once a CCW license passes its expiration date, it cannot be renewed.
Reapplication Requirement: If a renewal application is not submitted before the expiration date, the license holder must restart the entire process as a new (initial) applicant.
Increased Requirements: Missing the deadline means incurring additional costs and time, as the applicant must fulfill the requirements for a new license, rather than a faster renewal process.
Recommendation: CCW holders are strongly encouraged to submit their renewal application well in advance, as the process can take up to 90 days for processing.
