In 1948, the White House underwent a major renovation-including the addition of a balcony on the South Portico. This pen is sourced from the wood removed in that renovation.

This pen is made from Koa, a tree native to Hawaii. Koa was reserved for royalty, for canoes that crossed open ocean, for weapons and ceremonial pieces meant to carry mana, the spiritual power and prestige held by those who used it.
