Horror fans! Join us on Wednesday night for a real treat: a BOOk reading and signing!

Local authors Authors Liz Faraim, Wayne Goodman, Richard May, Rich Rubin, and Sarah White will read excerpts from “Bump in the Night: Q***r Stories of Horror and Suspense,” the latest release from Bay Area Q***r Writers Association— and perfect for the spooky season! Not only will there be Halloween treats, but it will be a benefit for Openhouse SF, helping LGBTQ seniors with the means to stay in their homes.

And check out this interview with Richard May from Vallejo Times-Herald

Today I had the honor and pleasure of facilitating a panel of three of my favorite authors: Marisela Barbosa Marisela Barbosa, author of Hispanics and Latinos in Vallejo; Sharon McGriff Payne Sharon McGriff Payne, author of African Americans in Vallejo and John Grider’s Century; and Mel Orpilla Mel Orpilla, author of Filipinos in Vallejo at the Vallejo Museum for Leadership Vallejo. They talked about their books, Vallejo history, and their families’ and cultures’ outstanding contributions to our city. It was so fantastic— engaging and smart and fascinating, just like the books and authors themselves.

If you’re interested in Vallejo history, come and check out their books in our local section, and learn more about what makes our town so diverse, vibrant, and unique— and how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful community (with such wonderful authors)!

Banned Books Week continues with tonight’s Memoir Book Club at 7, where we will discuss Dorothy Lazard ‘s “Behind the Desk At The Main” AND write postcards (provided) to legislators to protest book banning, and/or send postcards of encouragement to banned authors.

There will also be delicious treats from Tony’s Cakes — check out his latest video.

See you tonight!

I was out of town last week, so we did not get to fully celebrate Banned Books Week… But I figure every week we should celebrate Banned Books, so we’re keeping the fREADom going!

Join us Thursday night for this month’s memoir book club, “Behind the Desk at the Main” by Dorothy Lazard (who you might have seen here last month!), and we will be taking action: we will be writing postcards to legislators to fight book bans, and/or send postcards of encouragement to banned book authors. I will provide postcards (but if you have one you want to send, bring it!), addresses, and stamps. So please come, and keep celebrating your freedom to read. It’s one of the most important rights we do have.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new books post… And here are just SOME of them! LOOK AT THEM ALL! New Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver, Hernan Diaz, Ariel Lawhon, V.E. Schwab… I mean, WOW. (I’m reading the new John Green and enjoying it so much!) There’s really no excuse to not turn off the news (UGH) and tune into a great book instead! And if you can’t make it in, you can order at bookshop.org/shop/alibibookshop or get the audio: Libro.fm/alibibookshop — no need to give billionaires any more money. Period.

It’s vallejowaterfrontweekend and you couldn’t have asked for better weather. Go have some fun, but first stop by and get a good book — there are still copies of “Threshing Day” just waiting for you!

Today at 11! Please join us for a very special story time and author event with Mahini Adams, reading her new book, “Rain Has a Beat”!

When the rain keeps Cadence inside, it feels like the music is gone. But Mama knows a secret - music is always around. This book is perfect for the upcoming El Niño winter when little ones will be stuck inside, and help mamas and papas find fun things — and music — to entertain them.

So bring your kids and enjoy the story! Stop by before Maker Faire!

Today is 9-25, Dolly Day! September 25th is now a holiday to honor Dolly and her lifelong commitment to literacy, charity, and acts of kindness. So let’s celebrate! Wear pink! Wear sparkles! Do an act of kindness!

In honor of her today, all Dolly books — by and about her — will be 9.25% off, and as an act of kindness, buy a children’s book for our own local book fairy, AnotherChapterSolano and get 9.25% off your entire purchase.

And here’s another reason to celebrate: we’re FINALLY getting the phone and internet fixed today! (Fingers crossed!) Ya-hoooo!
