In addition to items for purchase, Pieces of Jayde offers workshops and classes on a variety of topics, from making a wire wrapped crystal pendant to how to use a pendulum for divination, how to discover and work with your spirit animal, an even making a fun witch hat for Halloween. UPDATE: We are closed today (WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12) due to no power at the shoppe (yes, I know parts of downtown Valpo have power, but on the south side of Lincolnway, we do not.)

Plus, we’re navigating a half a foot of water in our basement at home in Chesterton with more rain on the way. Fun times.

Wow. Just, wow. This may be our new reality, these horrific storms.

I live in Graham Woods in Chesterton, one of the last old growth forest neighborhoods in the state, we’re told. I’m not sure how long we’ll have any trees left if this keeps up! Too many down to count. We are very lucky to have no structure damage, just a TON of broken trees to clean up.

I am very grateful to the first responders, the utility company workers, the town and city employees, the tow truck drivers and all the other hardworking souls who are out there tirelessly working to begin to dig out of this. It really does look post-apocalyptic here.

Power is down at home and at the shoppe, so I have no idea when we will be open again. I’ll keep you posted as best I can (no generator either). Stay safe out there and remember, stuff can be replaced. People cannot. Love you guys!

Carved Greenman in copper. Stone is Preseli bluestone, the material from which the outer henge at Stonehenge is constructed. The Greenman rules over summer, and he has been enjoying a hot here one for sure.
Alas, I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing signs of summer’s end all around. The crickets are telling me so. I love fall, but I’m not ready yet to put my sandals away.
I know you all are super excited for the Halloween season and so am I. But I’ve decided to hold off putting out anything Halloween at the shoppe until Labor Day. It just doesn’t feel right to me to cut summer off. We will make it worth your while, I promise…we’re bringing in some of the best Samhain and seasonal items we’ve ever had! I can’t wait to share them with you, but just not quite yet.
Let’s let the frogs sing us to sleep just a little while longer, okay? 🐸🎶

Part two: Cleansing and charging each and every crystal.
It’s something I do for all big crystal buys. Each and every crystal gets washed in a mixture of clean water (we’re on a well), magickal oils (Banish and Van Van in this case) and dish soap. I speak words of intent over each batch. Then, they get a nice smoke cleanse. They all sit outside in my backyard for at least a day and a night to receive both solar and lunar cleansing as well.
BONUS: This batch is also Stormborn! Mike got home and was working at his desk, which faces the backyard. It was raining pretty hard yesterday. Suddenly, he heard the loudest CRACK he’d ever heard, along with a blinding blaze of light. Lightning had struck just a few dozen feet from the tables full of crystals!!! Thankfully nothing was damaged, but he was giddy having witnessed such an immense display of pure power. And excited that these crystals got that kind of boost!
It takes hours to do what I do for these stones. But I feel that it is my duty to prime them for purpose, and I love doing it. Buying crystals like this is very personal for me; every one is chosen, handled and cleansed so I know them very well.
To me, crystals, like so many other things, are very much alive. I hear them. I feel them. I know them. It is my sincere hope that my practice helps them become amazing allies for you.

Just a li’l appreciation montage for the beautiful space we have created. I love my shoppe, and I love my Tribe. You folks are literally why I do what I do.
Being a retailer is not an easy gig, believe me. I’ve had three careers in my life, and this one is a beautiful blend of all three: Graphic design, teaching and creating art, and the most rewarding for sure.
