One of our customers wrote to tell us that the parts he ordered had his lantern working again.

This particular lantern wasn’t going back on his own shelf. He was getting it ready to give to his brother, who, as far as he knew, had never owned one.

Sometimes the finished project stays in the collection. Sometimes it becomes someone else’s first Coleman. Both are pretty good outcomes.

Who helped you get your first Coleman?

One of our customers borrowed a check-valve removal tool, took his Coleman 530 stove apart, and gave everything a good soaking and cleaning. It really only needed a pump cup.

Once it was back together, the stove fired right up.

Along the way, he bought a second 530 to practice on. He got that one running too, so one repair project quickly became two working stoves.

That seems to happen quite a bit with old Coleman equipment. You start with one project and somehow another one follows you home.

One of our customers used parts from us for his first rebuild of a roughly 60-year-old Coleman 425E stove. After finishing it, he told us, “The stove will work great for another 60 years—wish I could say the same for me.”

That gave us a laugh. Based on how long some of these old stoves keep going, he may be right about the stove.

Will your 425 will still be cooking after you’re done with it?

One of our customers sent us this photo after adding three more red lanterns to his collection. Those three needed quite a bit of cleaning, so he repainted a few of them, added new decals, and got them all running again.

The full lineup includes a 235 and six 200As. The 200As range from 1958 through 1975, and he reports that all seven run like new.

How quickly did your first lantern find some company?

One of our customers sent us a short note and a photo after getting his dad’s old Coleman 275 lantern working again. His dad has had it since the 1970s.

A lantern can sit for years, but getting it running again feels a little different when it has been in the family that long. We’re glad we could help with this one.

Is there a Coleman in your family with a story behind it?

One of our customers recently finished restoring a Coleman 228F. The original globe was broken, so he picked one of our used red-logo globes to finish it off.

A new globe will do the job, but there’s something about putting the right globe back on an old lantern. This one looks right at home again.

It’s always good to see where these old parts end up.
If you’ve recently finished a restoration, we always enjoy seeing the photos.

One of our customers in Mahtowa, Minnesota, wrote to say his parts must be “circling the states somewhere” because they had missed their expected delivery date.

USPS can be surprisingly fast at times. We’ll send a package from Washington, and it arrives in Florida in 2 days. Other times, the route through the distribution hubs doesn’t seem to make much sense from the outside.

In this case, the package was still moving, but USPS was reporting delays related to the wildfires. We know it’s frustrating when the parts are somewhere in the system and a lantern is sitting apart waiting for them.

If you’ve ever watched a package take the scenic route through places that made no sense, tell us where it wandered. The rest of us would like to know we’re not alone!

A customer sent us photos of this lantern and asked for help identifying it. From what we can see, we’re pretty sure it’s a 1974 Coleman 200A that someone painted blue along the way.

The burner frame is missing the clips that hold the bail handle. Unfortunately, those clips aren’t normally available separately, so it will need a replacement frame. We have a reproduction available and occasionally get used originals.

We have to admit, the blue fount with the red vent doesn’t look bad. If this lantern were yours, would you leave it blue or put it back to the original red?

One of our customers needed the gasket that connects the regulator to a 2008 Coleman 5466A propane stove. Searching by the stove’s model number wasn’t getting us anywhere, but fortunately, he also gave us the number stamped on the regulator.

We went into full detective mode for this one. We found the same regulator used on three other stove models, looked through each of those diagrams, and worked backward until we identified the gasket used on the small end.

After following that convoluted little path, we confirmed that the correct gasket is included in our 5430 O-Ring Kit. It’s also available separately as the S37 gasket.

Sometimes finding the right part is less about knowing the answer and more about knowing where to look for it.

Is anyone else still using one of these 5466A stoves?
