Since I was posting an update, I wanted to give you guys something to think about. So I went searching 2020 statistics. Please take the time to read this page. If you've never considered personal safety, read this. Please take the few minutes.

NCADV is the voice of victims and survivors. We are the catalyst for changing society to have zero tolerance for domestic violence. We do this by affecting public policy, increasing understanding of the impact of domestic violence, and providing programs and education that drive that change.

I have to get on a soap box a little bit.

So being nosy, I went and looked up the stun gun and pepper spray laws in Iowa, Illinois, Texas and Arizona since those are the states where most of my Facebook friends are from and well, that’s what I sell. This is what I found:

Stun gun:
Texas, Arizona & Iowa you must be over 18 to carry. Illinois can carry under the age of 21 with written consent from parents. O.o ummm why not at 18? That seemed kinda strange and probably needs some updating as I found that you can buy them at 18.

Pepper spray:
Illinois minors as young as 14 can carry pepper spray so long as it’s provided by their parent/legal guardian. In Arizona, you can carry at 16, again if provided by parent/legal guardian. In Texas & Iowa, you must be 18 to carry pepper spray.

All 4 states are the same in that it can only be used in self defense (well duh that’s what they’re supposed to be used for) and you cannot have felonies on record.

Personally I feel the states that do not allow pepper spray for minors, petitions should be started to rectify that. My daughter is only 17 and has carried since she was 12 (our prior home had no age restriction on pepper spray). Now I find out legally she can’t carry it. She’s always been responsible with it, never keeps it where her siblings can get to it, and only carries when she’s not with me (I.E. walking alone to the store a couple blocks from house). While yes we do sell alarms that she can carry and that my other daughter has carried, but considering how many victims of s*x trafficking are minors, perhaps our law makers should consider opening those laws up a bit. I mean how many times have you heard a car alarm going off and you didn’t bother to even look out a window? Shouldn’t older kids have a way of doing more?! I can understand not wanting to give a 5 year old for instance, pepper spray, but surely teenagers can be taught to use products such as these and it’s for this exact reason that I recommend people buying our training sprays along with a device so that they can train others around them.

I feel the same on the stun gun laws. They’re not life threatening, but can be life saving when used properly. Even if they were to enact a class for them for minors, I feel they should be allowed to carry. My daughter’s had access to mine and when I’m going out of town, the first thing I remind her is where it’s located because you just never know what could happen. One of our Damsels just posted a story where a woman and child’s life were in danger during a home invasion and her pepper spray saving her life. What happens when parents aren’t home for it?! I’m not trying to scare anyone by any means but it does make sense to train our children who are old enough to stay home alone on things like this in my opinion.

This should cover the questions I’ve been asked about whether or not your children will be able to use these products. We do have the Hear A Pin Drop, Holla His and Holla Hers in the states where these are not allowed for your minor children. They give off an alarm that would make most car alarms envious. For the states those minors can carry pepper spray, ask me about our newest release of Protected Pepper with Shield Technology. These things are amazing! I will be looking in to petitions in my own state and can help anybody interested in looking into them in your states as well. Just drop me a note. And feel free to add your comments!
