π€ͺ So picture this: it is pitch black outside, I am wearing a headlamp, and my husband is standing there looking at me like I am a total lunatic while I am out in the garden, armed with a shop vac & Miracle-Gro soil, sucking up days of relentless flood water. If that is not peak dedication, I do not know what is. π€
My cat was right there in the mud with me the whole time keeping watch & questioning my life choices. I looked at him and said, "You are so loyal, you love your mommy. Youβre a good boy. I love you Bowie."
Between the non-stop rain threatening to drown my zinnias, pumpkins, squash, & sunflowers, I had to haul out bags of soil & pack it tight and high around all the exposed stems and roots just to keep them anchored. By the time I finished wrestling with the mud, I had to make the grueling walk back to the house, moaning in agony every step of the way because my body was screaming @ me. It has rained every single day here, but if Bowie and I survived this rescue mission, my garden stands a fighting chance!
I have learned so much this summer about gardening. I will do some things very differently next year. I am proud to say that almost every seed I have touched has sprouted. Unfortunately, the storms took out a bunch of my sunflowers, but as luck would have it, I threw a ton of wildflower seeds around my tree stumps & trees. I had no idea what flowers would bloom, and four sunflowers sprouted tall and I was able to pot them & I can replace my broken sunflowers with those. Please pray for me. π€ͺ
