I like to think my back lot is more than just a home for my beeyard, I know my girls are an obsession but when I see something as beautiful as this tiger Swallowtail on my Joe pie w**d I know I've got quite an ecosystem back there. I'm very fortunate.

In my never ending quest to educate my local followers and others not so local. Today's topic is Honey supers, what are they and why are they so super 😊. Honey supers are boxes of wax frames usually drawn out that are used on the hive for bees to store their excess honey in. So supering is just adding boxes dedicated for honey, they sit above the brood nest. I store my excess honey supers until I need them but there is one problem....wax moths!! Now in a good year with big honey flows I don't have a problem with the moths because all of my supers are safely on the beehives being protected by the bees, but this year is what I'll call a lean honey year so far so I've got extra boxes that I've got to protect because as any beekeeper will say , drawn honey supers are money, bees don't have to draw out plain wax foundation they can go right to storing honey, saving time, which means more honey. In the pics I'm showing that I spray both sides of the frame with a biologic BT called Certan. I've used this forever and is completely safe for humans and bees. Read the definition of Certan in the pic. Luckily I only had one box that was infested with wax moth larvae and those frames had to go in the fire pit. So this is how I spent my day today, they're not all glorious days out in the beeyard 😊 🐝🐝🐝
