I am so excited to announce that our new online shop is officially live! We built the website keeping it clean and straightforward, to make it easy for you to restock your favorite handmade soaps.
To celebrate the launch, I want to highlight my personal favorite: Tallow, Oats, and Goat’s.This is an unscented, ultra-gentle bar designed specifically for sensitive skin. It is made with locally sourced, pasture-raised, home-rendered tallow, creamy goat's milk, and soothing colloidal oats. Over the next few weeks, the water evaporates, the bar hardens, and the lather gets that rich, creamy feel you expect from a good bar of soap.

Not all soap is made to care for your skin.

This one is.

Each bar is hand-swirled in a soft tie-dye pattern—no two are exactly alike—and finished with the quiet, grounding scent of certified organic lavender essential oil. It’s meant to feel like a reset at the end of a long day, not just another step in your routine.

Made with local grass-fed tallow, moisturizing olive oil, kaolin clay, shea butter, and mango butter, this bar gently cleanses while helping your skin stay soft and balanced. No tight, stripped feeling—just clean, comfortable skin.

These are currently curing and will be ready in about 6 weeks.

As a mom, one thing I think about a lot is what my kids’ food touches. Not just the food itself… but the dishes, and even the soap used to wash them.

That’s a big part of why I started making my own dish soap when I began making soap for Hearth & Lye. I wanted something simple and effective with ingredients I actually understand.

Nothing complicated. Just good soap that does its job and gets those dishes clean.

Hot take: soap shouldn’t make your hands bleed.

A while back we were using Softsoap brand hand soap at home, and with all the handwashing we were doing, mine and my kids’ hands ended up so dry they were cracked and even bleeding. It didn’t sit right with me that something meant to keep our hands clean could leave them that damaged.

That moment is honestly one of the biggest reasons I started Hearth & Lye – American Soap Works.

I also get asked a lot: “If your soap isn’t antibacterial, does it actually clean germs?”

The answer is yes. Soap doesn’t need to be antibacterial to work. Soap molecules attach to oils, dirt, and grime on your skin where germs live. When you rinse, the soap lifts all of that away and washes it down the drain.

In other words, soap doesn’t just try to kill germs… it removes them entirely.

The difference with my bars is the ingredients. I focus on simple, nourishing ones like tallow, goat’s milk, and skin-loving oils that create a rich, creamy lather. Your hands still get thoroughly clean, but they’re left feeling soft, comfortable, and nourished instead of stripped and cracked.

Clean hands shouldn’t come at the cost of your skin.
