Just picked the first dahlias this morning….but want I’m most excited about is how sweet the berries are from my blueberry bush. All this rain has been great for producing abundant berries!

It’s hard to believe the July subscription completed three weeks of arrangements yesterday.

The lilies are about done blooming and the first flush of roses are finishing up. With some flowers, there are short windows of time where flowers bloom in their peak vibrancy. This is why this subscription runs its course in three weeks. Now the plants are tired and need some additional care with amendments and watering to put out new growth.

When you support a local flower farm, the availability of flowers depends on the time of season. I think that’s what makes it so special…appreciating flowers in the moment they’re blooming while knowing the window of time is brief helps us to stay in the present.

My next subscription starts in mid September and features dahlia bouquets. From now until then I’ll be tending to the flowers to ensure they grow healthy and strong to be ready for the next subscription.

I love sweet pea flowers. Each variety has a special unique scent. This year my light purple speckled blooms smell like grapes!

The frilly blooms stretch out from the thick green vines against the roses. The contrast of sweet peas and roses creates a soft palette of color.

The wall of blooms spans the entire left side of my porch. I enjoy early mornings sipping coffee amongst the flowers as the sun rises lighting up the blooms to reveal their inner beauty.

I’ve been so busy with all the garden tasks that I’ve forgotten to post all the latest flowers of the season.

Today marked week two of summer subscription pickups. The fragrant arrangements featured garden roses, lilies, snapdragons, sweet peas and more.

This evening I weeded the dahlias and prepped the garden bed for planting seedlings started last month.

It’s a very busy time of year but the absolute best time as all the flowers are growing stronger everyday and visibly abundant.

How are your gardens looking these days?

Every year I grow ranunculus and I’m always glad I did.

It’s a labor intensive flower to grow in our area of upstate New York. With a short growing season, corms need to be started in late winter in cold temps. I start mine in trays and leave by a window in the garage. For the longest harvest window they should be planted in covered beds in late March. Since I have limited space, I don’t have the ability to plant them early and cover.

Instead I plant them when the soil temp is warm enough to be worked, around late April. The corms are interplanted around the lily beds. They start blooming after the peonies and collapse quickly under the heat.

With the small window of time to enjoy them, sometimes it feels like it’s not worth all the effort. Then I get to make a beautiful bouquet like the one pictured, and I remember why….they are pure JOY.

The peonies are beginning to make their appearance and they do not disappoint! This is one of my earlier varieties. It’s finally in its third year making it a more productive plant.

Last fall I added 12 new varieties to the farm. I’m documenting when they bloom, height, and color. My hope is to offer peony subscriptions for a few weeks at the beginning of June when they’re fully mature.
