🔧 Bringing an Old Warhorse Back to Life 🔧

Pictured here is a Yugo Ma**er that recently came through the FoxFire shop with a mission: transform a classic military rifle into a capable long-range shooter while keeping its historic character intact.

The customer supplied a set of scope mounts, rings, and a Zeiss optic, and let us tell you… these mounts were a chore to say the least! Unlike modern mounting systems, these required the receiver to be drilled and tapped at an angle, which meant HOURS of careful setup and precision measurement before a single chip was made.

Once we indicated our center from the receiver edge and precisely located both mounting positions, the drilling and tapping began. Every hole had to be straight, level, and perfectly positioned. No shortcuts. No guesswork.

With the mounts installed, the project still wasn’t finished. The forend had to be carefully modified to accommodate the new hardware and ensure everything fit together cleanly and correctly.

The result? A classic Yugo Ma**er that maintains its vintage look while gaining modern capability. This old warrior is ready to reach out and touch something once again.

🦊🔥 FROM RUSTY RELIC TO FAMILY HEIRLOOM 🦊🔥

This Savage Model 24 (.223 over 20 Gauge) came to us after being won at auction for a customer. At first glance, it looked like it had seen better days…

❌ Rust-covered metal
❌ Dings and wear throughout the stock set
❌ Barrels that had separated and were no longer soldered together
❌ Unsafe to fire

Many would have written this old classic off as a wall hanger.

Not us.

With the help of JS Grimm Armament and our very own “Machine Shop Santa,” we set out to give this firearm a second chance. Since replacement parts simply don’t exist for projects like this, a custom barrel band was hand-made from scratch and precisely fit between the barrels before being soldered into place to restore structural integrity.

Then the real transformation began:

✅ Barrel assembly re-blued
✅ Magazine tube re-blued
✅ Hammer, trigger, and pigtail refinished
✅ Receiver Cerakoted in Graphite Black
✅ Stock dings carefully sanded and repaired
✅ Hand-rubbed oil finish applied to the entire stock set

The result? A firearm that not only looks beautiful again but is safe, functional, and ready for many more years in the field.

This old Savage has been preserved for another generation of hunters, storytellers, and family traditions. And with any luck, it’ll spend its future chasing squirrels, rabbits, and plenty of thunder chickens.
