Iowa just banned ALL trail cameras on public hunting land.

The Iowa Natural Resource Commission approved a rule banning both traditional and cellular trail cameras on state managed public hunting lands and game management areas beginning February 1, 2027. The ban does not apply to private property, and Iowa DNR and authorized research cameras are exempt. Officials cited complaints about hunters using cameras to stake claims to public hunting areas, discourage other hunters, monitor trophy bucks and even sell buck location information to out of state hunters.

The commission received 102 written comments, with 59 supporting the ban, 35 opposing it and 8 requesting a modified restriction. Not one person attended the public hearing. Iowa says the goal is to keep public hunting areas a shared resource and prevent technology from giving individual hunters an advantage over others. Do you agree with the ban, or should hunters be allowed to use trail cameras anywhere they legally hunt?

Eat the bass.. they are tasty!!🎣🤤

Two ponds. Fifty yards apart, managed by Garrett with Elite Lake Management, LLC

Two bass similar in length — but dramatically different in condition.

The bass from the 2-acre catch-and-release pond measured 13.5 inches, weighed 0.92 pounds, and had a relative weight (Wr) of 71.

The bass from the 3-acre pond measured 13.8 inches, weighed 1.52 pounds, and had a Wr of 104.

Here’s what makes this comparison important: the bass in the 3-acre pond were in similar poor condition before we began harvesting fish. About 80 pounds of bass were removed from that pond two years ago.

Reducing bass density reduced competition for available forage. The remaining bass had more food available per fish, and their body condition improved.

Meanwhile, the 2-acre pond has remained catch-and-release only, and this fish is a good example of what can happen when bass numbers become too high for the available forage.

This is why catch-and-release is not automatically good fisheries management. Sometimes the best thing you can do for a bass population is harvest bass.

13.8” — 1.52 lb — Wr 104

Nearly the same length. Very different condition.

Management makes a difference.

Anyone else enjoy catching a couple drum?

They put up a good fight and tend to be rather aggressive when going after a bait.... Feels like a bass for a couple seconds until your brain registers the way it's fighting!🥊

Thought about cooking one up, does anyone know a good drum recipe or technique?🍲
