A little behind-the-bench work today.

This clarinet came in with joint corks that needed attention, so the old cork was removed and fresh cork fitted to get the joints snug and secure again.

It’s one of those small details that can make a big difference in how an instrument feels and functions.

At Fret & Find, used instruments don’t just get cleaned up for pictures—they’re inspected, serviced where needed, and prepared for their next player.

Introducing Steward Violins

I'm excited to introduce Steward Violins—our exclusive workshop line available only through Fret & Find.

Every Steward violin is individually selected, thoroughly inspected, carefully adjusted, and play-tested before receiving its Steward workshop label. Each label is dated and marked with the instrument's size as a record that it has met our standards before being offered for sale.

Our goal is simple: to provide dependable, play-ready violins that students, families, and teachers can purchase with confidence.
Whether you're buying your first violin or upgrading to the next size, the Steward label represents an instrument we've chosen to stand behind.

Steward Violins—available exclusively through Fret & Find.

On the bench today...

This Samick Strat-style guitar got more than just a setup—it got a fresh start.

Here's what went into it: • New output jack • Genuine Fender Oak Grigsby 5-way switch • New volume pot • All new wiring, with select runs twisted for improved noise rejection • Bridge claw ground redone • Copper shielding added to the control and pickup cavities to help reduce interference • Paint polished • Frets, bridge, strap buttons, and hardware cleaned and polished • Fretboard conditioned • Fresh strings installed • Neck adjusted, action dialed in, and intonation set

I love giving quality instruments a second life. A little time on the bench can transform an older guitar into a dependable player that's ready for years of music.

This one is officially off the bench and play-ready.

I came across Eric Church's commencement speech and thought it was worth sharing.

He used the six strings of a guitar as a reminder that a good life, like a good instrument, needs regular attention and tuning. His six "strings" were:

• Faith
• Family
• Love & Partnership
• Ambition
• Community
• Originality

As someone who spends a lot of time setting up instruments, that metaphor really resonated with me. When one string gets neglected, things start to sound off. The same can be true in life.

Whether you're a musician or not, it's a thoughtful reminder to check in on the things that matter most and make adjustments before life gets out of tune.

What string do you find yourself needing to tune most often?

Friends don’t let friends spill sticky drinks on instruments.

This Yamaha weighted keyboard came in with keys not responding ...classic sugar damage inside the electronics.

We’ve got it opened up, deep cleaning the contacts and boards, and working through it piece by piece to see if we can bring it back to life.

Not every instrument just needs strings, sometimes it needs patience, precision, and a second chance.

That’s the kind of work behind the scenes at Fret & Find.
