BRIDGEPORT NATIVE OPENS VINTAGE CLOTHING STORE IN VINCENNES

A Bridgeport native is turning his passion for vintage clothing into a business on Main Street in Vincennes.

Dawson Holtz, 22, recently opened DH Threads at 104 Main St., offering thrifted and vintage clothing alongside a selection of newer pieces.

Originally from Bridgeport, Illinois, Holtz said the business grew out of the time he spent collecting vintage clothing and his desire to build something of his own. His goal is to give shoppers a place to browse the racks, discover something different and enjoy shopping locally.

VINTAGE FINDS AND A SECOND LIFE FOR CLOTHING

DH Threads carries a mix of vintage sportswear, Harley-Davidson clothing, Carhartt, band T-shirts, Nike and other distinctive pieces.

The store also operates on a buy, sell and trade model, giving customers an opportunity to bring in their own clothing while browsing inventory Holtz continues to replenish.

Giving clothing a second life is part of the idea behind the business. Holtz hopes the changing selection will give shoppers a reason to return and see what has arrived.

According to Holtz, the Vincennes community’s response has exceeded his expectations. In a post marking the store’s first full week of operation, he thanked customers for keeping him busy and said he had been restocking almost every day.

FROM A SET OF KEYS TO A STOREFRONT

Holtz received the keys to the storefront Sept. 1. Preparing the business for its opening involved long days, late nights and help from family members.

He credited the Knox County Chamber Of Commerce with providing guidance and support throughout the process.

His grandmother spent hours helping price clothing, organize the store and prepare the details for opening. Holtz also thanked his mother and stepfather for their encouragement and hands-on help getting the business ready.

The grand opening gave him an opportunity to see that work come together as customers arrived to support the new store.

As DH Threads gets established, Holtz said he wants to continue growing the business while creating a welcoming place for shoppers to find something unique.

LOCATION AND HOURS

DH Threads is located at 104 Main St. in Vincennes.

Posted hours are noon to 7 p.m. Eastern Time Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For Illinois shoppers on Central Time, those hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The store is closed Tuesday and Sunday.

Officially one full week of being open, and I couldn’t be more grateful! You guys have absolutely showed out and kept me busy all week. 🙌

On September 1st, I was handed the keys to my new storefront, DH Threads. At the time, I had no idea just how much this little dream would turn into. Looking back, I can honestly say I’m beyond blessed and grateful for everything this journey has brought me.

After countless late nights, early mornings, long days, and more sleepless nights than I can count, I finally got to see a dream become a reality. Seeing everyone come out and support DH Threads at the grand opening was something I’ll never forget.

I want to give a huge thank you to the Vincennes community for making the grand opening such an incredible day and for continuing to support DH Threads. It truly means more to me than I can put into words.

A special shoutout to the Knox County Chamber of Commerce for all of the help, guidance, and support along the way. I’m incredibly grateful for everything you’ve done to help me get to this point.

I also want to give a huge thank you to my Grandma Debe for spending countless hours helping me price everything, organize, and make sure every detail was exactly how I wanted it.

And last, but certainly not least, a massive thank you to my mom and stepdad, David. Without the two of you, none of this would have been possible. From the early mornings and late nights to the countless phone calls and trips to Walmart and Lowe’s for everything we needed, you were there through all of it. I truly cannot thank you both enough for believing in me and helping me turn this dream into something real.

This is only the beginning. What started with a set of keys on September 1st has turned into something I’m incredibly proud to call DH Threads.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported me today! I truly appreciate all of the support and encouragement. It means a lot to me as I continue building DH Threads, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. I can’t wait for Saturday and hope to see you all there!
