“End of an Era”
~ 9x12 Watercolor (SOLD)

I have tried for years to photograph one of these historic barns, but have consistently missed the one that sits along the PA Turnpike as I fly by, unable to stop. I love the pop of color offered by the old, abandoned truck.
Mail Pouch barns were painted as part of an American roadside advertising campaign from 1891-1992. At one point in time, 22,000 barns were painted with the Mail Pouch slogan….but very few now remain.
In 1965, the Highway Beautification Act allowed the Mail Pouch barns to be grandfathered in as landmark signs rather than billboards. This permitted these historic barns to remain, though none have been repainted for nearly 30 years unless it was done at the expense of the owner.

“Summer Sweet”

“Summer Sweet” is a celebration of the memories woven into the simple tradition of strawberry picking. I wanted to capture not only the beauty of the strawberry plant, but also the feeling of those cherished moments—sticky fingertips, baskets slowly filling, and the timeless pleasure of tasting a sun-ripened strawberry straight from the vine.
