Our goal is to offer specimens to inquisitve minds, educate our guests, and fascinate all who visit with the beauty of our natural world and history. Cobwebs and Curios is a family owned and operated small business and is proud to be the first oddity shop in Virginia. Initially in 2000, we operated as a humble private collection and online store. We have curated some of the highest end specimens in collections all over the world. Beginning i 2013, the “brick and mortar” collection has evolved into a private shop inside the Virginia Beach Antique Mall now open 7 days a week. We would like to invite you to look around and arouse your curiosity, you never know what you'll find beneath the dust and cobwebs. - Taxidermy and Educational Specimens - Medical and Funeral - Art and "One of a Kind's" - Antiques and Vintage - Entomology - Osteology - Religious - Sideshow and Circus - Occult - Natural History and so much more! The collection is alive (in a sense) we are always buying-selling-trading.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of selling my vintage metal album collection… I have probably have 200 METAL albums from the early 1980s - 90s. Early pioneers that are simply unavailable in most record shops. Sure I have Death, Cannibal Co**se, Slayer, but I have stuff you simply don’t see like Liege Lord, Geddes Axe, Cyclone, Vardis, Demon, Solace, Mace, black metal, early hardcore, signed stuff etc. Would our clients be interested in first shot?

We deleted our last post because we realized summarizing the overwhelming love we received at the expo by focusing on a single theft wasn’t fair. Today a memory popped up from our first “expo” from over 15 years ago. It really puts things into perspective. Thank you for supporting our shop and passion. We are truly honored that after 20+ years of being “weird” to have a community we consider family that shares our passion and are able to spark interest, educate and inspire after all these years.

I’ve been thinking about my dear friend Nick Phillips (Nick Phillips) a lot lately. For the better part of a decade, we shared our passion for collecting, learning, and exploring the stranger corners of history.

One of those shared interests was the tradition of Appalachian snake-handling churches. A small group of friends planned a trip to attend a service led by Pastor Jimmy Morrow on the backroads of Newport, Tennessee. Pastor Morrow was one of the last surviving snake-handling pastors. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make the trip.

Nick—a pastor himself—selflessly brought me back this snake box, handcrafted by Pastor Jimmy. Today, both Nick and Jimmy are gone.

Every time I look at this incredible piece of American history, I’m reminded that it’s more than an artifact. It’s a story of friendship, shared passions, generosity, and the people who made those memories possible.

Cherish your friends. Cherish your passions. Cherish your life; And, never miss an opportunity to learn.

Sourced a truly rare one today. At first glance this 1891 board is impressive enough due to its stellar condition and rarity. But on closer inspection, this board stands out. Note the Ouija logo missing the trade mark incorporated in its design? Not unheard on for pre-registration boards, but unseen on post registration. Even more unique, is the stencil with trademark flanking the logo to either side. This is an undocumented example. Furthering the curiosity, the Ouija logo itself is stencil 2 typically associated with the Pratt street 1891-1893 boards, HOWEVER… those boards have the octagonal corners and are typically veneer over pine. What we likely have here is an example of a trade mark transition board with very few (less than 5) in private/museum collections.
