I sometimes tend to complain too much instead of doing something about it, so this “net positive” idea is helping me stay the course and make a difference positive contribution rather than being a constant complainer.

Got to follow along in Eric’s fly fishing journey since pretty much the beginning, and was super excited to be a part of this memory. Love that Iowa has such great species variety!

Mac had his fly dragging along the boat in between casts when a 15”ish smallmouth swiped at it. I alerted him to it and before he could look down and find his fly in the water, Mac had his fly crushed by a bigger smallie that outcompeted the 15” fish for the fly. Without seeing the fish, Mac instinctively (and maybe because of my excitement) set the hook and fought this fish to the net. 19” of wild, old, Iowa smallmouth is a special accomplishment for his first day dedicated to smallmouth fly fishing. Well deserved, Mac!
