We ship orders.

The Driftless is looking pretty good right now.

Creeks are clear and running a little low, with water temps mostly in the high 50s to mid 60s. Only the bigger creeks are starting the day above 65 degrees.

We should see things cool down a little this week, with some cloud cover moving in around the middle of the week. Overall, it is shaping up to be a pretty solid stretch of summer trout fishing.

Mornings are still going to be your best bet. Get out early while the water is at its coolest because fishing will usually slow down by midday. If the clouds stick around and water temps stay down, you may be able to keep fishing a little longer.

Trico spinners are showing up on quite a few creeks in the mornings. Once that action slows down, switch over to a summertime favorite, a grasshopper with a bead head nymph underneath. Thin bodied bugs like a Zebra Midge or P&O are both good choices.

It is still summer, so keep an eye on those water temps, get an early start, and enjoy the Driftless.

PSA for Anglers

When parking near an access, do you best to try to make sure all four tires are completely off the road. Don't put your vehicle in the ditch out in the middle of nowhere with no service, but be smart. Parking too close to the roadway can create dangerous situations and potentially cause an accident.

Most designated trout easements have space available for parking, so please use it. Don’t park wherever it’s most convenient, block the flow of traffic, or stop in front of a farmer’s field entrance or access point.

We see it so much where anglers will create bottlenecks on roads or even park on bridges, where there is very clearly a designated parking area nearby. Those bottlenecks can hinder a landowners ability to drive a combine or tractor through, for example.

Take the extra minute to park safely and respectfully. Give other vehicles plenty of room, respect the landowners who make stream access possible, and help keep these fishing areas open and accessible for everyone.

Park smart. Respect the land. Keep the road clear.
