On this Tuesday, the 20th, at the Legendary Lou’s Records in Encinitas, Swedish skate photog Daniel Mansson is introducing his new book “For The Love of Skateboarding”, with a packed panels of legends. He’s also doing a re-release of his photo book, “Faces of Skateboarding”

We will be there with some of our newest products and some of our riders, come join us for an awesome time!

Notes From T-Mag

“Mizuho is back from the World Skate Championships in Paraguay and brought her loot with her and insisted that I wear her medals for this photo. What an honor! I can’t even imagine what it’s like to not just wear the medals but be the one that earned them, and in the most dramatic and amazing way that she did!

She is now the current World Champ in both Park and Vert and of course, retains her World #1 ranking and is probably the most successful competition skater, maybe ever. In my mind, that is certainly the case, especially since I’ve had the privilege to see her skating develop over the last few years, since she first came to California in 2023.

I did note that she added the 360 Varial and Frontside Kickflip as upgrades to her winning run in this particular competition. Of course, she had a number of run upgrade options but those where certainly good ones! You can check out all the World Skate stuff on YT.

From all of us here at H-Street, I’d like to also wish her a very Happy Birthday, today she is 16! I’m not sure what’s on her birthday wish list or schedule but yesterday, she went right back to the park to work out some newer moves! One of the gnarliest, toughest skaters I’ve ever come across!

Mizuho is here until the Exposure contest in early November, so if you skate in the SD area, you might come across her.”

After all manner of drama in qualification, where Mizuho was on the cusp of elimination before the Semi-Finals, she has emerged as the World Champion of Girls Park, again!

After going from essentially last to first in the Quarter Finals, she won Semi-Finals and then, with a stunning run, won the Final before her last run, giving her another “victory lap” run. She was the only rider scoring in the 90’s, and she was never not in first place!

She took her already amazing run and added a 360 Varial and a Frontside Flip and that just meant goodnight, it was over!

There was no shortage of competition as Sky Brown landed a Silver medal and also skated incredibly well. Mizuho’s Japanese team-mate Cocona scored the Bronze with a great come from behind performance too.

Congrats to all that skated in the opening battle for LA28, it looks like we’re going to get a very exciting competition series leading up to LA.

As for Mizuho, she is on her way to California again! She’ll be competing the Exposure contest in early November, here in Cardiff. With some luck, we’ll get some fun footage during her stay here.

Even though Vert is not in the Olympics, let’s not forget that Mizuho won that contest just last week in Paraguay also, so she is in fact a Dual World Champion of Skateboarding. Or we say around here for short, She’s The Best! That has never been more true than right now, although we’ve said that years!

Mizuho was qualified in first place going into the quarter finals at World Skates Olympic Qualifier contest in Asunción, Paraguay.

To fully understand our reason for this post, read on for a crazy story, normally we wouldn’t post such an early result.

Mizuho is ranked #1 in the world, which allows her to go last in the last heat. A total of 40 girls from all around the world compete for just 16 spots in the quarter final.

Sky Brown, ranked #2 in the world was just before Mizuho. Sky’s first two runs were great, easily putting her into the Quarters. Mizuho, on the other hand, randomly fell on both runs, she had to fully rely on her last run, a reason to be hella nervous which can be a huge challenge!

The final and third runs for heat 4 were going. Then as Sky was about to go, all hell broke loose raining, causing the contest to be delayed. For Sky, it didn’t matter, but Mizuho was sitting in 30th place, she desperately needed even a basic and completed run to make the Quarters.

Mizuho would not get that chance, the rain was too severe. The last two runs were moved to this morning. So the dealt cards were to spend one agonizing night, trying to get some rest, ponder over two bailed runs and then wake up and hope for the best. To get into contest mode with essentially no crowd, 10 minutes of practice first thing in the morning, maybe just by yourself, given Sky didn’t really need to ride at all.

Luckily Sky opted to take her run and it looked like that might have helped set the mood and tempo of a contest, even in the early hours.

Mizuho has performed under pressure perhaps better than any skater we’ve ever seen but this was a task so big, it might just get the better of her. Sky took a basic run bailing at the end, no big deal, she’s still in!

Mizuho drops in with vengeance on her mind, choosing to up the difficulty level, added a blunt slide on the rail where she bailed a regular boardslide yesterday! She finished a perfect run in first place! Both her and her amazing mom were crying after and so were we!!

The actual semifinals are probably tomorrow, then the final.

Notes From T-Mag

“I don’t shoot photos or even skate that much these days but the OG Del Mar dudes got together at Hawks this last Saturday and I figured that I’d go roll around for a bit, make sure I can still do something on a skateboard. Legendary skate photog Scott Taylor was there and setting up all his gear, right in the spot where I used to rock a pretty good Backside Smith Grind, the classic move invented by Monty Nolder back in the 80’s.

By total chance, our session was right around the time when Mizuho was skating the World Championships in Asunción, Paraguay. I happen to know that she pretty much does a back smith in her run almost every time. So it’s possible that this back smith happened at the same time, or at least close.

Perhaps not the most interesting thing but another funny thing is that I’m riding her old DC Shoes. She’s just about the same size as me and she only skates her shoes until they’re basically broken in so it’s perfect for me, I get broken in shoes that already knows how to skate, haha.

There’s no chance I could ever skate at her level, she did go on to win that contest and when I saw her runs later that day on the ‘ol ytube, there was the back smith. Along with a heavy onslaught of competition skating at the highest level!

We had a super fun session and thanks to Scott for shooting a great photo and I was pretty stoked on this one. And if this hasn’t been said a thousand times, thanks to Tony Hawk for having built such an amazing ramp that we’ve skated for so many years.”

Mizuho and JD Sanchez both won the Vert World Championship held in Ascension, Paraguay this weekend. Mizuho’s good friend and and team mate Shuka Kawai got second place. All three had unbelievably impressive runs and incredible competition poise, power and control!

The contest featured a unique format, which had a standard best of three runs but then incorporated a five try best trick contest, where your two best tricks counted towards the final score. This made for some strategy and different look at a vert contest.

They’ll be having the Park contest next, so stand by for more action from all these young rippers! And though we say it all the time, every time these guys ride, it’s so amazing and we could not be more proud or stoked!

For those that don’t know, Mizuho drew her own graphic after winning her first contest in the USA a couple of years back, The Hidden Cat, which both her and Shuka rocked in the contest. JD rode T-Mag’s Cedar Crest High Air deck, which was originally drawn by OG artist Francesco Albertini back in the 80’s. Now that he’s won a big contest, perhaps his ride needs a little update.

We can hardly keep up with all that goes on in Mizuho’s crazy world but we know that she just won the Asian Games, which was held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. It was so decisive, she was the only skater to score a 94, almost 10 points more than her second place competitor!

One of her highest scoring moves is the Frontside Kickflip, that usually comes out after she’s already secured a great basic run and when she lands this trick, along with her onslaught of varials, 540’s, high airs, technical lines, it’s usually a win.

It so happens that the Frontside kickflip is also the very first flip trick done on vert and brought to the world by T-Mag in the 80’s, documented in the classic OG H-Street video Hokus Pokus.

We’re certain T-Mag could not be anymore stoked or proud of Mizuho, not just for this trick but her incredible skating and all her continued success. All of us here at H-Street just stand in awe of her amazing journey in skateboarding!

Mizuho wins the Asian Games! We really don’t know that much about the contest but we do know that She’s The Best!

We also know that she’ll be competing in the World Skate Olympic Qualifier contest in Paraguay, South America, which is coming up quickly, so Team Japan is probably rushing around to get on the plane for that. As soon as they get done celebrating Mizuho’s amazing accomplishment!

As always, we wish her the best of luck, all the prosperity in the world and a very safe trip!

Keefer Wilson is back in California. He went and skated Lake Elsinore, filmed this part in under an hour, after having not skated there for about a year! Quite impressive, T-Mag was on hand to document all the crazy. Keefer is hanging out at the Level Up TF here in Vista for a few days, before heading to the World Skate contest in Paraguay at the end of the month, stand by for more Keefer action from there!

Congratulations to not just Mizuho for winning the Jackalope Montreal vert contest with the most insane line ever but we can also report that JD Sanchez won the guys Vert contest and Shuka took second place in the girls contest, so props to her for a totally awesome effort!

We have also learned that there was a high air contest, which Mizuho also won with that totally awesome backside that skate photog shot of her.

In a sense, a total team H-Street cleanup job at Jackalope Montreal! And of course, it goes without saying that we are so totally stoked and proud of all three young rippers!
