Vista Records and Tapes

Vista Records and Tapes An independent record store in Vista California. Opened in 1981, Vista Records and Tapes was the primary source for music in Vista, California for 13 years.

The store was purchased by Michael McClintock in 1986, who hired Erik Rupp later that year. They both worked at the store up until it's closing in 1994. Vista Records found a middle ground between the hit driven chain stores and the eclectic underground of the independent stores. Vista Records was a discount store, offering lower prices than the chain stores. Vista Records also offered a number of

catalog titles and import CD's that were almost impossible to find at the chain stores. The store specialized in Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative, and Rap. There were also decent sized Jazz and Country sections as well.

This is Vista Records in the first half of 1989 (sometime around March). Those are the old CD bins (replaced a year later with gray ones), and the wall space wasn't yet fully taken up (our inventory expanded greatly over the next few months after this photo).

It's been over 25 years since Vista Records closed, but I still run into people who remember me and miss the store. Those were some good times for sure.

A lot of people still remember Vista Records and Tapes. What do you remember buying there?
