As we continue to build our inventory while looking for brick and mortar opportunities in or near Wake Forest, I have placed a few items on fb Market Place.
I am new to the retail side of record sales and still learning about the shadiness of those who either try to corrupt or just plainly want something for nothing. I likened the something for nothing group to my local band friends who play to survive and are told "Well, look at the exposure you will get" when asked to play for free 🙄.
The corruption group I recently learned through a recent connection with a certain Record Store owner who I had hoped to learn from. Turns out, after at least 5 records came up "missing", one near miss Tom Petty Special Edition, 2 ruined records via buckknife, theft of personal property and chastisement for wanting my records cleaned, listen tested and in antistatic sleeves for my customers, the fun continues.
I should have paid attention to the red flags - for starters, the owner didn't even use their real name. Yesterday, I got a "bite" on this ABB sealed European release. First, he offers half the price and will throw in 4 records on trade, I counter and he counters again, which I agree to after a sob story. So we agree on a location which just happens to be right around the corner from me.
And then this AM, he sends this snapshot of a price he "found" lower than our agreed to price. Fails to note it is out of stock and not sure when or if it will be restocked. I learned a lot of what NOT to do from observing this record store owner near Wake Forest, and the verbiage and tactic of this encounter are spot on with their behavior.
It's hard to say exactly what went on, but I can assure you ASOB is transparent with customers and the people we deal with. No games, just sharing the love of music to help pay for some of the road trip costs to see Blues Bands live....
