Today I carried around all three of my boys and made one of my last inventory drops. After the Christmas season, I’m taking an extended maternity leave from my business Mason Dixon & Co.
For the last 5 years this business has been my first baby. Built from the ground up with humble beginnings to seven retail locations and an online store. I put my heart and soul into this business and it has been good to me. I am the sole employee, creator, boss, shipping coordinator, customer service representative, marketing expert, social media liaison, and purchaser. All the hats, all the time.
Over the last almost 2 years since having Brooks I have simultaneously ran my business while also staying home full-time. And it hasn’t been easy. Days where the only free time I had to work was during naptime or after bedtime. Which some days left no mental or physical breaks. Many days I strapped Brooks to me and we reset stores, dropped off inventory, and shopped for new merchandise with my vendors. So so so many miles driven together making the dream work.
Since becoming pregnant with the twins it’s been increasingly more apparent that I’ve got to slow down, take a breather, and make adjustments to my responsibilities and commitments. I don’t know what life with three under three is going to look like just yet. I don’t know how navigating newborn twins and a toddler is going to work. But what I do know is, this is great and important work. And while this business has meant everything to me and has brought me so much joy and independence, I also know that in this next season of life, being a mom is more than enough. My greatest challenge lies ahead and I’m thankful and grateful for everything I have learned over the process of being a business owner. All the personal and professional growth. All the successes and wins. It was worth all the work and sacrifice!
We will see where the road takes us during this next chapter and reassess when life feels a little more routine. But I absolutely want to take a chance to thank everyone who has ever supported, shared, encouraged, or helped in growing this business. Without you, it wouldn’t have been possible all these years! Thank you.
