A long overdue fertility update... Darrell and I have been riding the fertility wave on the quiet side for a while now. And while it felt like it protected my heart a bit, being open has always helped me even more.
We used our last two healthy embryos over the last few months. The first didn't take at all, which is about a 1 in 3 chance of happening with IVF. The second we did just a few weeks ago, and we were able to get pregnant. I actually got to see a positive at home test, as much as Darrell didn't want me to do it, lol. I'm a little bit stubborn sometimes.
Unfortunately, we didn't make it past week 5 again. I had a miscarriage early one morning last week. Weirdly enough, almost to the day that the first miscarriage happened. While we are incredibly disappointed, our marriage feels stronger than it has ever been, and being able to lean on each other has brought us both peace and comfort.
Looking to the future.... We have a video call scheduled with our amazing doctor in early April. We'll discuss some additional testing and then, depending on where that takes us, will likely do another egg retrieval over the summer to try to make some more tough little embryos. We have talked about adoption, and it remains on the table when our fertility journey has run its course (though Darrell did say I can choose between a baby or 3 more cats lol).
I share this stuff for anyone else going through it: to know you're not alone, to know that the struggle is for sure real, to know that even when you think you're at the end of your rope you can climb right the hell back up. We're freaking warriors! And for anyone on the outside of fertility, to help understand how common this is, and maybe find ways to support your friends or family.
While the science of IVF is absolutely amazing, it just proves how much of a crapshoot pregnancy will always be, even in a completely controlled environment.
