This is small “gem quality” oak Display Case is now available in our show room. Nick restored this Case and replaced some glass.

The Case is 19 1/2” tall, by 14” wide, by 10 1/2” deep. It does not have a back door.

It is an unusually compact size that is not often found. Your special item will look even more important when displayed in this Case.

As the weather changes, there is a trend toward more indoor activities. Historically the indoor movement stimulates an increase in the interest in antique furniture as well.

There seems to be a strong interest in Buffets in the Fall. Buffets are also commonly known as Sideboards or Servers - although there are some differences, we just use the term Buffet to cover all of these pieces.

Today we took photos of ten different Buffets that are currently available at Shady Lawn (Walla Walla) - and we might have missed one or two…

There is no doubt that foundry and tool makers of the 1800s added an artistic flair when they could. That coupled with the well earned patina of honest work raises many tools to the status of small artistic sculptures…

We just acquired some fruit jar rubber rings… they are good to have. However the original American Fruit Jar Rings box is even more impressive.

The box has excellent graphics - an Eagle with spread wings and the red, white, and blue American Shield…

Today we would like to showcase this circa 1850s, walnut wood Server. It is referred to as a ‘Breakfront’ cabinet. When a portion of the front of a piece either ‘steps out’ or ‘steps in’ it breaks the ‘flat front’ surface - thus a Breakfront.

The drawers on this piece were constructed with ‘hand cut’ dovetails. The drawer pulls are also hand carved. Those techniques are referred to as pre-industrial age (which began in roughly 1870) woodworking techniques.

This Sever has its original finish which has aged to a beautiful mellow glow. At six feet long, this is both a beautiful and a monumental piece.

Nick has just finished restoring a ‘batch’ of farm found pulleys.

This involved completely disassembling the pulleys. The next step was removing the rust from the metal and sanding the wood.

The wood pieces then had a finish applied. Finally all of the wood and metal pieces were waxed before re-assembly.

We have noticed that pulleys are currently really popular display pieces. Therefore ‘replica pulleys’ are currently being produced.

Remember our pulleys are all well over 100 years old.
