Since debuting in 2009, Connecticut psych band MOUNTAIN MOVERS have delivered a lengthy discography floating through rich textures and experimental sounds. Today, the group announce their upcoming instrumental album, Knifethrowers, set for release on October 2nd through Redscroll Records. On the record, the band build from the sounds of 2024’s double album Walking After Dark, while trading in vocals for synths, keys, percussion, and drum machines. Self-recorded and mastered by John Miller, Knifethrowers sprawls five tracks with a run time of nearly 42 minutes. The songs came together as free jams and were recorded live to a Tascam 488 with no overdub. The album captures a journey through time and the changing of the seasons, reaching its destination in closing track “Blue Fort.”
Single “KILLING FROST,” out now, hits on that first freeze of the year when we brace for the cold. Deep bass and electric guitar build a slow groove before making contact with synth-driven signals, sounding nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. The accompanying video captures the feeling of the song through a trippy, nature-inspired visual.
