Sea robins are hunters, and scavengers, crawling across the sea bed looking for anything edible, including pretty much every kind of bait that you can throw, they're interested in it. Sea Robins produce a very mild venom that can make you sick for a few days, from spines that run across the back of their skulls. Many people dislike the sea robin, because of how often theyre caught versus game fish like Striped Bass and Bluefish; and even Porgy sometimes. But they're a very interesting, and honestly, tasty fish right in our back yard!

Fall is here! Even if it may not feel like it quite yet in New England. With lots more angling to do into the coming October months, be sure to be ready and geared to get on the water for Blackfish and big Bluefish! As well as the fall stocking for Atlantic Salmon, and trout in the major river systems and trout parks across the state.

This week for fish fact Friday! We take a look at one of the most heavy metal freshwater fish found in Connecticut, the Northern Pike!

Northern Pike are highly aggressive predators seeking out anything that they can fit in their mouths. With large sharp teeth, its important to learn how to handle a landed pike for your safety.

For targetting pike, they will hit in every season including under ice in winter, using live bait such as shiners is a classic way to target them, and as for artificial lures give loud topwater baits such as buzzbaits and whopper ploppers a try. For subsurface artificial baits, give swimbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastic swimbaits a try.

Good luck, and get ready to get splashed by its big powerful tail!
