If the thought of ending up with a messy back like this gives you nightmares, here are 4 things you can do:
1. Work with shorter threads in smaller sections, avoiding carrying between stitches
2. Be very strategic and intentional with how you move from stitch to stitch
3. Avoid patterns with confetti
Or, my ✨ absolute favorite✨,
4. LET. THAT. FEELING. GO.
Because over time, you may notice that being overly focused on methods 1-3 starts to take away from the joy and relaxation of stitching (and isn't that why so many of us started?)
I'm not saying that backs *should* be messy, or that preferring a tidy back is bad — in fact I'm usually quite a neat stitcher and I generally enjoy the "puzzle" of deciding how to approach my stitching!
But if perfectionism is making you feel more stressed than soothed while you stitch...it's time to take a moment to think about what *really* matters ☺️
Do you agree?
(The backstory with this one: I was bummed to discover that this pattern was likely made with image converter software and NOT well edited by the designer. Tons of unnecessary color changes and confetti. But I really wanted to stitch it so I decided to just carry my threads all over the place and I'm loving the piece as I near the end).
