Good evening everyone, Yoshi here.
I wanted to take a minute to clear the air about something I heard from a few racers this weekend. Aside from the bugs we've been working through in Version 2.0, another concern was brought to my attention that I think deserves to be addressed.
I've heard that some people are worried that by using the IMRC Setup Manager, I'm able to see everyone's setup secrets or use that information for myself.
I completely understand why that question would come up, so let me explain how it actually works.
By default, **your setup data is stored locally on your phone.** If you never enable Cloud Sync, your information never leaves your device. Unless you hand someone your phone, nobody—including me—can see your setups.
Now, if you choose to use Cloud Sync, your data is uploaded to Google's Firebase servers so it can be backed up and synchronized between your devices.
I've also heard the question:
**"Well, if it's in the cloud, doesn't IMRC have all of our data?"**
Technically, the data is stored in our Firebase project—but that doesn't mean I'm sitting there looking through everyone's setups. The data is protected through Google's Firebase infrastructure and security rules. In practice, I don't have a screen where I can browse racers' setups or compare everyone's suspension package. The only information I intentionally keep visible is a small amount of account information that helps me troubleshoot problems if someone contacts me with an issue.
I've attached a screenshot of what I can actually see. As you'll notice, it's very limited. I don't see lists of everyone's setup sheets.
We spend roughly **$200–300 each year** between Apple, Google, Firebase hosting, and other services just to keep this app available and improving. My goal has never been to collect racers' setup information—it's to build a tool that helps racers stay organized and enjoy the hobby.
Trust is incredibly important to me. IMRC was built by a racer, for racers. If I ever lost the community's trust, I'd lose the very reason I started this project.
If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions about how your data is handled, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'd much rather answer the questions directly than have anyone wondering or worrying.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the app, reported bugs, submitted tracks, and helped make IMRC better. I truly appreciate every one of you.
