ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Kathryn Infante
Kathryn Infante’s exhibit showcases Banner Quilts inspired by her annual week-long stay at a resident summer camp where she teaches art to campers in the Art Pavilion. As Kathryn says, “Summer Camp Craft is more than popsicle sticks!”
At the end of each jam-packed day, she unwinds by making one BLOCK to represent that day. It’s a piece of personal art telling and providing a visual memory of each day and that week. In Kathryn’s words, “I love it!”
The challenge is that she takes with her to camp only a random selection of fabrics, threads and what-evers to use. That’s it. That’s all she has to work with.
Filler work included in her display is inspired by her tri-weekly trail hikes through Mill Creek Metro Parks in Youngstown. While walking, she photographs the natural habitat around her. Then once home, she turns those inspirations into fiber art.
According to Kathryn, "Inspiration is everywhere, every season. I suggest you let imagination out to play and go take a hike”.
