How was yesterday even August 1 in Missouri?!? My U-Pick customers were putting on long sleeves and jackets when they got out of their cars! The perfect weather. Another amazing group. We talked dahlias, zinnias and all things cut flowers…a lot. The cats greeted and entertained as always. Thank you all for coming!

Y’all know my love for native plants. I thought I would put out a small series on natives that I use for cut flowers & foliage. Several are blooming now in Missouri or are getting ready to. I thought this might be of interest to some of you.

Found this native gem growing down by one of our ponds. Great Blue Lobelia. Love her striped petals and unique foliage. Nice chunky stem for structure. Anyone used her as a cut?

Let’s test her vase life, shall we?
Do you think the blooms will continue to open up the stalk? I hope so.
If possible, the tip bend will have to be addressed for sure in post harvest care.

A bit of a background on this sweet lady…she gifted me, a total stranger on Facebook, my very first dahlias early in March of 2024 so that I had a better chance of having dahlias for my son’s wedding. And we did!! Our friendship has only grown from then on. Thank you Linda for being one of my #1 supporters from way before this was ever supposed to be a business! You’ve always been a wonderful sounding board, cheerleader, and plant swapping buddy. Love you heart dearly my friend!
