7 People Your Business Should Consider Gifting

When companies create a gifting list, they often start with clients.

But your relationship ecosystem is much bigger.
Consider:
1. Your best clients
The relationships you most want to nurture.

2. New clients
Make the beginning memorable.

3. Referral partners
Thank the people who help grow your business.

4. Employees
Recognition shouldn't be reserved for clients.

5. Prospects
Sometimes appreciation can help build a relationship before a sale happens.

6. Vendors and strategic partners
Great partnerships deserve recognition.

7. People who simply made a difference
Not every gift needs a business justification.

The strongest gifting programs look beyond transactions.

They look at the entire relationship ecosystem surrounding the business.

That's where gifting becomes a competitive advantage.

The Handwritten Note Still Matters

In a world filled with email, texts, automation and AI, there is something surprisingly powerful about handwriting.

A handwritten note says:
Someone took the time.
That's why handwritten notes have always been an important part of what we do at Our Gift Biz.

The gift gets attention.

The note gives it meaning.

And the combination creates a more personal experience.

Think about receiving a package that says:
"Thank you."

Now compare that with:
"Jane, it was wonderful working with you on the Smith project. Your attention to detail made such a difference. We truly appreciate you."

One is a message.

The other is a relationship moment.

That's the difference between personalization and meaningful personalization.

In my experience, the smallest details often create the biggest emotional impact.

And yes...

I still believe there's something special about handwriting.

Gifting Is a Business Investment

Some companies look at gifting as an expense.
I see it differently.

When done strategically, gifting is an investment in relationships.

Think about the value of:
• A loyal client
• A repeat customer
• A strong referral partner
• A retained employee
• A prospect who becomes a client
• A relationship that lasts for years

Now ask:
What is that relationship worth to your business?
The question isn't:
"How much should we spend on a gift?"

The better question is:
"What experience is appropriate for the value of this relationship?"

That doesn't mean spending more.
It means spending thoughtfully.

A strategic gifting program considers the recipient, the relationship, the timing, the message and the experience.

That's why I call it the Art + Science of Gift-Giving.

The science helps you make smart business decisions.

The art makes the experience human.

And that combination can be incredibly powerful.

When Should You Send a Client Gift?

The obvious answer is:
At the holidays.

But that's also one of the most crowded times of the year.

Everyone is sending something.
Everyone is saying thank you.
Everyone is competing for attention.
So why not think differently?

Here are five moments that can be even more powerful:

1. After a major milestone
Celebrate their success, not just your business relationship.
2. After a challenging project
Acknowledge the effort.
3. When they refer someone to you
Thank them while the referral is fresh.
4. At the beginning of a new relationship
Make the first impression memorable.
5. For no particular reason
Sometimes "I was thinking about you" is the most meaningful reason of all.
That's the beauty of strategic gifting.
The calendar doesn't have to dictate the relationship.

The relationship can dictate the moment.

Why I Still Love This Business After 26 Years

People sometimes ask me what keeps me excited about gifting after 26 years.

It's the people.
It's always been the people.

The business owner who finally finds the perfect way to thank her clients.

The executive who wants to recognize an employee who has gone above and beyond.
The financial advisor who understands that relationships are the heart of his business.

The event planner who wants to leave clients with something they'll remember.
And the recipient who calls to say:
"This was so thoughtful."
That's what makes this business meaningful to me.
A gift is tangible.

But the reason behind it is emotional.
And that's why I believe gifting can be such a powerful business tool.

You aren't just sending something.
You're creating a moment of appreciation.
You're reinforcing a relationship.
You're reminding someone that they matter.
After 26 years, I still believe that's a pretty wonderful thing to build a business around.

Your Clients Don't Need Another Logo

Let's be honest.

Your clients probably have enough things with company logos on them.

Another mug.
Another pen.
Another tote.
Another item that gets tossed into a drawer.
If your goal is relationship building, ask yourself:
Does this gift say anything about how we feel about the relationship?

A strategic gift should feel like it was chosen for the recipient, not purchased for the company.
That's a subtle but important distinction.
The best corporate gifts don't scream:
"Look at our brand."
They quietly communicate:
"We see you. We appreciate you. We value this relationship."
That's why I believe the strongest gifting programs are relationship-centered rather than logo-centered.

Your brand still matters.

But your brand is strengthened by the experience you create.
And sometimes the most powerful branding isn't your logo.

It's the feeling someone has when they think about doing business with you.

The Corporate Gifting Mistake I See Most Often

The biggest mistake I see isn't choosing the wrong gift.

It's waiting until the last minute.

When gifting becomes a fire drill, you lose the opportunity to be strategic.

You start asking:

"What can we get quickly?"
instead of:

"What would be meaningful for this person?"
Planning ahead gives you options.

It allows you to:
• Personalize the experience
• Choose products thoughtfully
• Coordinate multiple recipients
• Add handwritten notes
• Create beautiful presentation
• Manage shipping properly
• Stay within budget
• And most importantly — remove stress

Corporate gifting should not be another item on someone's December emergency list.

It should be part of your relationship strategy throughout the year.

And September is actually a great time to start planning your holiday gifting.

Because the best gifts aren't rushed.

They're intentional.

The Best Gifts Start With a Story

One of my favorite parts of this business is learning the story behind a product.

Recently, at the gift shows in New York, I met people who had poured their creativity, energy and resources into products they believed in.

I love asking:
"Why did you create this?"
Because the answer tells me so much.
Maybe it started with a family tradition.
Maybe it solved a problem.
Maybe the creator wanted to support a community.

Maybe it was simply something they couldn't find anywhere else.

Now imagine giving that product to someone and being able to tell them the story.

Suddenly, it's not just a candle.

Or a piece of gourmet food.

Or a beautiful accessory.

It has meaning.

That's one of the reasons I love curated gifting.
We're not simply matching a person with a product.

We're matching a person with a story.
And stories are memorable.

That's MML in action:
Meaningful → Memorable → Lasting.

When a client trusts you with their Rosh Hashanah gifts for the second year in a row, you know you’re doing something right. ❤️

It’s one thing to create a beautiful gift. It’s another to be trusted with someone’s most important client relationships.

For the second year, I’ve had the honor of helping a client plan and manage their Rosh Hashanah gifts—from their client list to every thoughtful detail, making sure everything is handled accurately, beautifully, and on time.

Because corporate gifting isn’t just about the gift.

It’s about making your clients feel valued, strengthening relationships, and giving you peace of mind knowing every detail is taken care of.

Being trusted year after year is something I never take for granted.

Here’s to another year of meaningful gifts, thoughtful connections, and relationships that last. 🍎🍯

Stop Sending Gifts. Start Creating Moments.

Here's something I've learned after 26 years of helping companies with gifting:

People don't remember the gift nearly as much as they remember how the gift made them feel.
That's why I don't believe corporate gifting should be treated like ordering promotional merchandise.

A logo on a product doesn't automatically make it meaningful.

The experience matters.
The timing matters.
The presentation matters.
The note matters.
And most importantly, the reason behind the gift matters.

Think about the difference:

"Here's a gift from our company."
versus
"We appreciate the trust you've placed in us, and we wanted you to know how much we value the relationship."

Same box.
Completely different experience.

That's the Art + Science of Gift-Giving.
The science helps you create a thoughtful program.

The art makes the recipient feel something.
And when you combine the two, you create a moment that can strengthen a relationship.

That's strategic gifting.
