The Yugoslav People's Defense Corps (KNOJ) was a special unit of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army (JPA), which was responsible for security and protection in the liberated territories. It was formed on 15 August 1944 by decision of the National Committee for the Liberation of Yugoslavia (NKOJ). It was subordinate to the Commissioner for National Defense of the NKOJ, Marshal Josip Broz Tito, who commanded it through the head of the Department for the Protection of the People (OZN), Aleksandar Marko Rankovic.

Immediately before the formation of the Yugoslav National Defense Corps, in July 1944, on the territory of Yugoslavia, about 5,000 fighters were in the national defense units, which were engaged in security in the liberated territories. At the end of the war, in May 1945, the KNOJ had eight divisions. The main tasks of the KNOJ were to clear the liberated territory of all kinds of enemies, assist the National Liberation Committees in organizing life in the liberated territory, and secure the borders of Yugoslavia, to the extent of its liberation. After the end of the war, the KNOJ, in cooperation with other bodies, was the main factor in securing the country's borders and destroying the remaining enemy units.

The Yugoslav People's Defense Corps was disbanded in January 1953, and its responsibilities were taken over by the Border Units of the Yugoslav People's Army and the People's Militia.

Delve into the intriguing world of militaria with this exceptionally rare Bosnia Serbia VRS Army Green Tiger Pattern Military Police Uniform. Hailing from Bosnia and Herzegovina, this piece offers a unique glimpse into the distinct military aesthetic and historical context of the region that was in war during the 90s. The uniform boasts an eye catching green tiger pattern, reflective of the VRS army's distinctive style. Its detailed craftsmanship and authentic design make it a must have for collectors and enthusiasts of military memorabilia.

The VRS was largely outfitted by existing stocks of uniforms and equipment left over from the days when Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the six federal units of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia.

Later the VRS was supplied with war materiel directly from what remained of Yugoslavia/Serbia itself.

Several camouflage patterns were worn by the BSA during the civil war, primarily lizard patterns (they are generally referred to as "tiger" instead of lizard when it comes to Serb/Yugoslav patterns), but also the standard uniforms of the JNA.

The Guard continues the almost two-century-long tradition of Serbian Guard units.

In the First World War (1914-1918), members of the Guard went through all the more important battles and hardships of the Serbian army and contributed to its victorious onslaught, from the Thessaloniki front to the free homeland. It will forever be remembered that, in the winter of 1915 and 1916, during the retreat towards Greece, Serbian guards carried their aged and sick king over the frozen Albanian mountains.

During the Second World War, on November 1, 1944, the Guards Brigade of the Yugoslav People's Army was formed from the Es**rt Battalion of the NOV and POJ Supreme Headquarters.

The 63rd Parachute Brigade is one of the special forces brigades of the Serbian Army. Before it was a part of Yugoslav People's Army until 1992 and Yugoslav Federal Army (1992–2006). From 2006 until 2019 it used to be a battalion, but since 21 December 2019 has the status of a brigade within newly restructured Serbian Army in order to readdress new defense tasks within army due to increased defense threats and in order to better honor traditions of pasts. Ratko Mladić 12 March 1942 – 27 August 2026) was a Bosnian Serb military officer who led the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) during the Yugoslav Wars. A long-time member of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia, Mladić began his career in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) in 1965. He came to prominence during the Yugoslav Wars, initially as a high-ranking officer of the JNA and subsequently as the chief of staff of the VRS in the Bosnian War of 1992–1995.

By many he was a hero, glorified by the Serbs. He stood and defended his own country again many forces at the same time.

The M68 MOL, a Yugoslav People's Army four-piece, reversible camouflage suit, was developed in 1968 and issued to select infantry forces as a cutting-edge combat uniform. Notably, it was the first modern battledress to feature a camouflage pattern and canvas construction, distinguishing it from obsolete wool-made, non-camouflage uniforms like the M55 and M77, which were reminiscent of World War II standards rather than those of the Cold War era. However, despite its innovative design, the M-68 was reserved for exclusive use by specialized units, including paratroopers of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, snipers, and select reconnaissance units, while the majority of the army continued to wear outdated uniforms until the late 1980s, nearly until the dissolution of Yugoslavia.
