Hey, it’s Vanessa! If you were around this time last year, you know that I’m very lucky to spend time volunteering at Brave Trails, a leadership camp for LGBTQ+ youth. I’m going to spend the majority of my time here the next couple weeks focused on my q***r and trans community, and plan on putting less pressure on myself to post and respond at my usual frequency on IG.

Garlic Girl Vintage will remain OPEN our usual hours! Our lovely associates and vendors will still restock the shelves every day! You shall see no shortage of trinkets, just a shorter supply of timely responses and content from me. If you have a question or want to purchase something, stop by or give the store a call: 202-688-0151.

With love and pride,
Vanessa/Lark 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

If you’ve been around me in the summer or fall, you’ve probably heard me talk about Camp Brave Trails. It’s a very special camp for q***r and trans youth to be themselves, grow as leaders, and explore who they are in a safe, supportive environment. Q***r joy is in the air at Brave Trails, and a big part of that comes from how free the campers are to explore their gender expression without fear of judgment.

Ashley () and I met working at Brave Trails and as we’ve been getting ready to head back this summer, we’ve been talking about how we can bring a little piece of the GGV community to camp. There’s a costume closet at camp, where campers are free to try new looks and ways of expressing themselves through hair, make ups, and style. The closet could use a refresh — and that’s where you can come in!

We’re collecting donations to help grow the costume closet. Drop off gently used items between now and August 3, any time GGV is open.

What we’re looking for:
🌈 Street clothes in all sizes and gender presentations
🦄 Formalwear, Halloween costumes, old prom dresses
🌈 Plus size clothes!
🦄 Shoes! No heel is too high for the campers at BT
🌈 Wigs - the campers love a wig moment
🦄 unused make up
🌈 accessories of all kinds

Please no socks, underwear, or anything else you wouldn’t buy used for yourself.

Thank you! 💖 Vanessa (Lark)

The only thing fuller than my subaru after this trip was my heart 💘 my only regret is not taking more photos with each other in spite of the ever-present sweat…

This road trip was half sourcing for GGV, half soaking up leisurely days with long distance friends. I scoured garages and converted medical buildings in Massachusetts, won dozens of frames from an auction in New Hampshire, and rolled the dice on ten boxes of unknown content and origin in Maine.

More importantly: I earned my first sunburn of the summer on a New York beach with friends from three careers ago. I ordered every appetizer on the menu at a Palestinian restaurant with Chris & Alex | LGBTQ Travel + Lifestyle. I lazed in a hammock by a secret river bend in western Massachusetts with my the friend who first made me see myself as a small business owner.

Sasha sniffed her heart out on off-leash walks around my favorite pockets of Portland. I fell in love with the kitchen in my old roommate’s new house. I took side quests to find gluten free bakeries. I binged Love Trapped on my drive home.

The spoils of this trip are trickling into the shop every day — stay tuned!
