It’s been a day! Our team and shop are ok, but the roof on top of the store caught fire early this morning. Thankfully there was not a ton of damage in the shop but it’s unfortunately caused our AC to be out along with some power issues and it’s simply too hot for our team to be in. We’re closing up early and will (very hopefully) resume normal hours Tuesday. In the meantime, take 10% off all online orders today + tomorrow with code F**KFIREWORKS.

We’ll provide updates here next week with operating status, etc. In the meantime, some love to our friends at Bread Alley + St. Anselm DC who got hit the hardest in this fiasco 🚒😢

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

I’ve been fairly open over the years about my experiences with infertility and pregnancy loss. Last year, after several failed IVF cycles while trying for a second child, I found myself searching for something hopeful to hold onto.

Before one transfer, I bought myself a pair of ruby earrings. If it worked, the due date would be in July — ruby month. It felt serendipitous. That transfer failed, and I tucked the earrings away feeling a little silly for attaching meaning to them at all.

The next transfer unexpectedly worked. And somehow, the due date landed at the very end of July after all.

Since then, those earrings have become my talisman through this pregnancy - worn every day through my first trimester and to every appointment since. Jewelry is funny that way. We often associate it with celebration, but so many pieces are deeply intertwined with grief too.

In our custom work lately, we’ve had a slew of pieces centered around mothering in very different forms. While some projects celebrate motherhood, many are rooted in sadness: pieces using stones from clients who recently lost their mothers; pieces mourning fertility journeys that didn’t go as expected; pieces symbolizing the decision not to become a parent. All are focused on this central theme of mothering, and how differently it can look and feel from person to person.

I know this weekend feels joyful for some and heavy for others. I’m endlessly grateful to everyone who trusts me to create pieces that become physical representations of these celebrations and memorials. Thinking of all of you this Mother’s Day.
