🍁WE NEED YOUR HELP🍁
Share this post to spread awareness!💚

We have transferred Maggie’s care to Boston.

💚 What this means for everyone is that if you signed up to be a donor, we will need you to sign up again, but through this link for Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We know there were so many people who signed up, and we do not take this for granted, but we do need to ask this of you one more time. We want to emphasize that just because Maggie’s care is centered in Boston, it does not mean you have to travel to Boston for all the testing; much of the testing can be done locally.

💚 We also want to stress that you do not, in fact, have to be the same blood type if you are passionate about donating. If this is the case, the donor team will coordinate a match with the same blood type as you, and once you donate to this person, Maggie can receive a voucher that allows her to receive a transplant from someone who does have the same blood type. If you were set on this before and found out you were not the same blood type, this is another great option that saves two lives.

💚 As far as an update on Maggie’s condition, we wish we had better news. In the past year, Maggie has gone through complications that left her fighting for her life more than once. Sometimes the only thing you can do is fight, and we know her to do nothing less. She is currently on dialysis daily, which helps her to feel better; however, this is not a sustainable solution. She needs a kidney. Despite this, she has still been out in the sugar house and in the orchards taking pictures when she can. We assure you she is heavily involved in the work behind the scenes, as many should know, it is nearly impossible to keep her from getting involved.

💚 The link has resources on things Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers for donors. Just some of these things include wage reimbursement, travel reimbursement, lodging reimbursement, and there’s so much more. There are also three short videos at the bottom of the page that provided a great overview of donating and the support offered to you as the donor. It’s important to us that as the donor you would be well supported, and we feel Brigham and Women’s Hospital exudes that support. As always, you can reach out to us with any questions.

💚 You can sign up to be a donor through the link as well as learn more about being a donor: https://nkr.org/DLX986

This is a little bit different than our usual maple posts. As many know Shawn is the fire Chief and for this training both of our worlds came together. Checkout the photos and notice our sugar house standing tall in the background of many pictures!🍁🚒

It was great to see everyone work so hard throughout this training. This is not a random situation especially for this area but we're confident these crews would handle it professionally and thoroughly. 🚒🚑

We stole the photos and caption from Washington NH Fire and EMS, go to their page to see the original post!

[Training] Monday night (4/2/) Washington crews were dispatched to Atkins Family Sugar House for report of a subject possibly trapped in a pile of logs. Upon arrival crews located one patient trapped under logs not responsive but breathing. After a quick assessment of the area a second patient was discovered also unresponsive but breathing. Scene safety was evaluated and all machinery was secured.

Washington crews divided to treat both patients and requested Lempster's engine to the scene. Upon further assessment the first patient did not require lifting the logs and could be extricated through digging. The second patient was fully pinned and could not be moved without full extrication and stabilization of the logs. Extrication of the second patient could not begin until the first patient was removed due to the logs overlapping and concerns about stability. (Chief Atkins did in fact place the logs intentionally to test the situational awareness of crews to consider both patients at the same time). Crews requested a medic as well as DHART for the second patient.

Although this was training, everything in the scenario was run completely as an active emergency scene. Instructor Sam Atkins was the proctor for the second patient providing vitals and updates on the patient as interventions were performed. We were fortunate to have the first patient be a real life Bobby Crane who's acting was top tier and provided a patient to perform real vitals on and complete full physical assessments. Chief Atkins observed the entire scenario assessing and documenting how crews treated the patients, command decisions, scene safety, and communication.

After completing the scenario Chief Atkins and Instructor Atkins lead a discussion about the scenario. This allowed everyone involved to reflect and learn from areas that could have gone differently. Of course there was also emphasis on all the things that went very well. Trainings like this are the closest our members can get to the real thing, everyone did a great job and learned a lot. We are grateful for Chief Crane for being such a good sport and being a great trauma patient. Thank you to Lempster Fire Department, it's always a pleasure to work alongside everyone.
